3) Body Stability: During the putting motion, it’s imperative that the body remain very still. Any motion will cause your putter path to be inconsistent, which makes solid contact almost impossible. My favorite thought is to imagine a small coin under the ball at address. After my stroke, I don’t look up until I can identify the denomination—usually, this takes a count of one. Keeping your eyes focused on the impact area will greatly limit any tendency to move the body.
The Pull Back Putting Drill is well known and for good reason.  It’ll take the stress out of your knee-knockers and have you staring at the bottom of the cup.  Everybody knows the feeling of missing a 6-foot birdie putt… this drill can make sure you never feel it again.  Play this 9-hole pull back putting drill with some friends and you’ll be consistently rolling in 6-8 footers in no time.
The majority of golf strokes occur near or on the putting green, but many golfers have no concept of how to hit a basic short shot in golf, whether it’s a putt or a chip. PGA Professional Chris Czaja offers a wrist tip that will improve your short game.

I am a former collegiate golfer, and PGA assistant professional. I currently coach a local high school varsity golf team. I have been giving private lessons for over 20 years. I believe that each golfer has his or her own swing, and should not be taught to swing like a tour pro. By learning proper fundamentals, the student can build their swing to be repeatable, and become a better player. Make golf fun again, and call today. Playing lessons also available.
Many people know what golf is, but have little knowledge about playing the game. A large course, expensive clubs, and advanced techniques may be intimidating to first-time golfers. The only way to move past the fear is to engage with other beginners and learn from experienced players. If you want to get on the course, but have no clue how to start, consider taking golf lessons. The following are five benefits of taking golf lessons as a beginner.
Most players should spend the majority of their time on the shorter putts (ten feet and in), but that doesn’t mean they should disregard the long putts. Putts from 20 feet and beyond create major problems for many players. These lengthy attempts often result in three or even four-putts that can kill someone’s score and ruin their confidence. That’s why the goal with this drill, besides trying to actually drain the putt, is to put the ball within a three-foot range for a makeable two-putt. If you can consistently two-putt from 20 feet and further, occasionally making one, you will be able to shave several strokes off your score right away.

Focused exclusively on developing your short game technique by learning the shots and understanding the strategies that form the basis for improved scoring. This series consists of three (3) one hour sessions and is limited to four (4) students.  Practice balls are included. Fee is $90.
Place three balls in a row along the same line at equal distances.  I suggest 3, 6, and 9 feet to start.  Roll putts starting from the ball closest to the hole and moving outward.  This is a great drill to find rhythm before heading out on the course, or when you’re finishing up your practice for the day.
Then, simply react to the position on the dial. For example, if you see your ball falling into the cup at eight o’clock, focus on that edge of the hole as you settle into your address position, then smoothly let that line guide your stroke. If your mind’s eye sees the putt entering the cup at four o’clock, then focus only on four o’clock.
2. “Walk” off the distance with your stroke. From the side of the putt, point your putter at the ball, then pass it over an imaginary line running from the ball to the cup at the same speed you want the putt to roll (above). Moving your putterhead from the ball to the hole at the proper speed when you’re calculating distance helps your brain move your arms and putter with the correct amount of energy when you putt the ball for real. Yes, you can do this by simply scanning your eyes over the line, but studies prove that using your eyes and hands in tandem enhances brain performance much more than using only your eyes.
Private Lessons vs. Golf Schools: Private lessons and golf schools are the two typical ways to receive golf instruction. Both have strengths. Private lessons allow for follow-up visits over a period of time – a building block approach to learning golf. Schools offer an intensive amount of learning in a short time, but can also offer too much information and without much follow-up. On the other hand, private lessons can take months to complete.

And if you are spending money on golf as you get into the game – buying new clubs, nice clothes, paying green fees – then spending a little bit more on lessons is a good idea. (Not to minimize the costs involved – golf can be an expensive hobby.)
His instruction approach is to focus on the fundamentals of the game, including correcting your starting position or setup, as well as grip, aim, parallel body lines, and posture as the foundation of an accurate, powerful swing. After fully addressing these critical points, he moves into back swing, downswing, and strike point for a consistent delivery of club to ball. Finally, the finish position is monitored to ensure that you are maintaining the proper balance for shot accuracy, velocity and control.

I highly recommend checking them all out. The reason why Adam is unique is because he thinks differently than almost any other golf teacher I’ve ever come across. He’s not here to tell you how to get your hands in a certain position, but rather to challenge you to figure it out on your own through performance games, changing your mindset, and experimentation.
This putting tip is easy, but often overlooked. Once you have decided on a putting style and a line to the basket, commit! Make up your mind and don’t change while you’re in the process of putting. If you become unsure, step back and re-evaluate.

If you watch a good chipper you’ll see that their backswing and follow through are similar sizes. You see a lot of golfers who struggle with chipping making big backswings with little follow through or the opposite, making a small backswing and over accelerating into the ball. A balanced chip shot swing leads to good tempo and makes it easier to deliver the clubface solidly on the back of the ball. It also reduces the desire to “hit” the ball when chipping. Good chippers make a smooth balanced swing and let the ball get in the way. Make some practice strokes with your chipping club and feel the club moving back and forth in nice balanced and smooth motion. Do this without a ball until you get the feeling then add the golf ball. The goal with the ball is the maintain that same balance and tempo. This will lead to solid shots and better distance control.

His eventual passion for golf earned him a scholarship to play for Eckerd College, located in St. Petersburg, FL. Ever had to play from wet and compact sand only to thin the ball through the side of the green and into a worse postion than when you started? This video lesson will prevent that from ever happening again…
You read almost every putt, but if you’re like most players, your routine is guesswork disguised as green-reading. That won’t get you close to the hole, let alone “in.” You’re not the only one reading, and weeping, on the greens.
I’m a big proponent of practising from inside 10 feet because then you’re going to make a lot of putts and when you see the ball going in constantly, it breeds confidence like nothing else. You need to practise that and give yourself good momentum going into a round.

Before you even step foot on the course there are a few things that you should figure out. Granted, you will end up learning and changing things up as you play, but it’s beneficial to start with a strategy that you can test.
The USGA’s Thomas Pagel describes a rules scenario in which Arnold Palmer picked up Jack Nicklaus’ ball to concede the 1962 U.S. Open. What’s the penalty for the King’s gentlemanly act? You make the call.
After judging the contours of the green and hitting the putt, compare your read to the way the ball actually behaved. For a badly misread putt, stop and take a moment and see what was missed in assessing the slope.A good habit to get into is to align the logo of the ball (or a straight-line marking) along the intended aiming line. This will take the guesswork out of alignment and make it easier to diagnose any mechanics problems.
Making the Choice: After these steps, should be ready to make your choice. It’s important that you choose an instructor whose personality meshes with yours. Going to a teacher you don’t like will keep you from learning. It’s important that an instructor’s goals match yours, and that your commitment matches your goals. Once you’ve made your choice, throw yourself into it – and watch your scores improve.

After three weeks I finally took a trip to the range.  Getting into my new posture required very little conscious effort and I made some half decent swings.  I took a few new videos of myself and uploaded them for review.  My instructor acknowledged the hard work I put in, noted that my takeaway was still going back a fraction inside and began to diagram the next phase of my swing reconstruction – improving my backswing.  Although I am in reasonably good athletic shape, I tend to cheat a little bit taking the club up to the top.  The current goal is to get my back to target so that I can finally feel what it means to be loaded onto my right side (as a right-handed golfer).  I’ll need to ingrain this new movement before my instructor and I can tackle sequencing in my downswing.

As anyone who plays golf regularly will know, putting is a game within a game. You can strike the ball well all day, mastering the seemingly harder side of the game but if you consistently three putt, you’ll walk off disappointed. But how much time should you pay to your putting technique, and how much to feel. The answer to that question is that both are important but here I’ll focus on the putting tips that will groove amre consistent stroke.

The fact that setting up correctly can seem so obvious and even a little mundane, is probably why many amateur golfers completely overlook it. But if you fail to check your setup position on a regular basis (every time you practice isn’t a bad idea) it’s so easy to adopt bad habits.
As I have already covered in the section on drivers above, the best drivers have a large head size. Ranging from 440-460cc. I recommend you look for a driver with a head size greater than 440 cc. This will maximize the sweet spot and provide loads of forgiveness on mishits.

Ask Around: Every golf instructor’s best advertising is his or her past students. To get an idea of the best teachers in your area, ask as many golfers as you know. You may find someone who has taken lessons and can give a glowing recommendation on a particular instructor – or a warning.

With reunions and other get-togethers scheduled during the holiday season, most people want to look their best at this time of year. For some, that means filling in those wrinkles with a bit of botox, or having a nip and tuck down here and there. || Posted November 23 2013
Our meeting room comfortably seats over 25 guests. Even with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, you won’t be sitting for long. It’s too much fun playing championship courses or challenging team members to a ‘closest-to-the-pin’ competition. Build excitement into your next company meeting by adding skills challenges, on-course play, and team awards for significant contributions.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at the best ways to learn golf. Obviously there is nothing to beat physical practice out on the course with an instructor who has been there and done that, but it is not possible to spend as much time as you might like doing that. Furthermore, a golf pro costs money, which of itself may be a restriction.
Nice article. However I must ask how can a golf coach possibly tell you what you are doing wrong without seeing your ball flight? I presume you notified the online golf coach of your bad shot and with that information the coach could link your ball flight with the adequate faults in your swing.
Beginner sets also use shafts that are a little shorter in length as this makes it easier to control the club. A shorter shaft length however, does mean less distance. But as a beginner, consistency is more important.
To hit a chip shot solid you need to hit the golf ball, then the ground. In order to achieve this you must strike the ball at or before the bottom of the swing. Getting your weight and golf club leaning slightly forward at the setup are excellent ways to improve contact. At the setup feel 60% of your weight on the forward foot. It will feel as though back shoulder is higher than your front shoulder. This sets your swing into a steeper position allowing for a solid hit. Now the key is to keep the weight there during the swing. Next get the shaft leaning slightly toward the target. A good reference point is to have the grip of the club even with the middle of your forward thigh. This along with leaning forward add just enough steepness to allow for a solid hit on the golf ball.
If you’re 6 feet or taller, use a 34 1/2-inch putter, and if you’re 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 tall, use a 34-inch putter. Golfers who are 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 should use a 33 putter and a 33-inch putter if you’re 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 8 tall. If you’re 5 feet 3 to 5 feet 4 tall, a 32 1/2-inch putter is the correct size and a 32-inch putter fits a golfer who is 5 feet 1 to 5 feet 2. Guidelines recommend a 31 1/2-inch putter if you’re 4 feet 11 to 5 feet tall, and a 31-inch putter should be used by golfers shorter than 4 feet 11.
For beginners, in lessons 4, 5 and 6, you will also start working on short game and putting. Don’t let yourself think this isn’t as much fun as whacking balls on the driving range, this is BY FAR the most important aspect of golf. That’s why they say “Drive for show, putt for dough!”
Golf instruction is no guarantee of success or improved play in the game. Bad mechanics can be deeply ingrained in a subject’s swing, and psychological factors can also hinder progress. The 2009 Golf Channel program The Haney Project: Charles Barkley showcased some of these issues, as Hank Haney attempted to fix former NBA great Charles Barkley’s infamously bad swing.[2]

Some training aids are sold via television infomercials and the more peculiar varieties were satirized in the 1996 film Tin Cup.

Andy begins by pointing out that the object is to hit the ball in a reasonably straight line, but that a lot of beginners think that in that case the swing should be directly behind the ball and follow through in a straight line. However, that is not the case. The club does not travel in a straight line, but in an arc. The club is raised behind the golfer’s body so it is not directly behind the ball. As the swing commences it travels down the first part of the arc and – it is to be hoped – connects with the ball at exactly the point where it will send it in the direction we want, and then continues in its arc finishing up above the golfer’s left shoulder (or right, in the case of a left-handed player).
The first thing she wanted to address was my hunched over posture.  To illustrate her point, she positioned my swing adjacent with that of Rory McIlroy’s.  There was something humbling about seeing my swing in contrast to Rory’s and even my instructor sheepishly noted that it wasn’t her intention to “compare” my swing with the world’s No. 1 golfer.  Rory, of course, has model posture at setup.  He also has a neutral takeaway; mine is to the inside.  My instructor filmed a nine-minute segment picking apart my swing, explaining how posture and takeaway influence the chain of events that follow.  Her analysis concluded with a pair of additional videos that described corrections that I could incorporate into my swing.
If you are a new player to golf or are an experienced player that would like to hit the reset button then I would approach your learning the same way I approach the development of almost every player. Start with the shortest stroke first.  This means to start with the putting stroke and move your way back to through the clubs and shots all the way to the driver.

Rather than letting golfers just starting out swing and swing to eventually develop a comfortable swing that sends the ball straight, we recommend starting with beginner golf swing plane training. To help train new golfers to follow the swing plane, PGA Professional Ali Jean Wells demonstrates a simple three-step beginner golf swing drill that warms golfers progressively into a natural swing that’s on plane.

My 15 years of teaching golf has certainly shown me that the golf goals are different for every player.  In fact, many players don’t have any goals, which is why that question is so important.  Please pause and take some time to know and understand your goal and objective.  In fact, I recommend that you write it/them down in a book.  This will help focus your learning, practice and development as a player.  Also, in writing down your goals you will likely take a hard look at the current state of your game and help you understand where you need to focus your attention.

The final consideration is whether you want to go for new or used clubs. This is generally less relevant for beginners as the club sets for starters are very affordable and therefore we would recommend going with new clubs. But there are times when used clubs offer great value. Either way, remember that you can always trade-in your clubs at the later stage.
Tucked away amongst the rolling hills of northern San Diego, the Maderas Golf Course has an unusual setting in that it passes between cliffs and rocky outcroppings, along with forestland and creeks. This hilly course has been an award-winner almost since it opened, and along with its 18 holes it offers a 25-station driving range and several putting greens. Pro instructors are on hand for all skills levels.
It can be played single or double pack. Each player receives four cards face down in a 2×2 grid and looks at two before play begins. Thereafter, players do not look at their face-down cards; however, there is a house rule that players may take a stroke (gain one point) to look at one of these cards again. Play proceeds as in six-card golf, but a player may knock (instead of drawing) at any time – even before all of the players cards have been swapped for face-up cards – and then all other players have one chance to improve their hands before scores are tallied. Pairs are counted vertically, with diagonal pairs being an optional rule. Each card from 2 to 10 represents its own points (i.e. any 3 card is worth three points, any 10 card is worth ten points, and so on). Aces are one point, jacks are eleven, queens are twelve and kings thirteen points. The goal is to get the fewest points.
It’s a simple fact: if you can put the ball in the fairway consistently, you give yourself a great chance at par or better. Conversely, miss the fairway on a regular basis and you give yourself a headache.

Aim and alignment forms very much a part of the golf set-up above but is so important it deserves a section of its own. In fact the great Jack Nicklaus once said ‘if you’ve mastered the correct aim and alignment you’ve mastered 80% of the game.

Then Piers demonstrates that you can practise with small swings so that you get used to turning your body in the correct arc in order for the clubface to strike the ball at the correct angle, and play some shots like this before increasing your swing in order to drive the ball down the fairway. To begin with you only need to hit the ball 20 yards.

Our approach to golf instruction is to help you “see” the club and ball interaction so that you can actually influence it. We help you develop your way of playing your best, not just show you our way and force you to conform to it. You’ll find out that golf really can be fun!
We have a 3 month ‘Get into Golf’ programme that combines coaching the swing and short game with some play on the golf course. Realising that this is a big, daunting step for some, our programme makes the step much easier with coach being there and helping with the process. We feel that beginners starting on the Golf Course with other beginners reduces the nerves and helps create confidence.
Get a metal meter stick and place it six feet away from the hole (or any target) on the line where the ball should start off the putter face.  Set the ball on the end and hit your putt.  If the ball stays on the meter stick the whole way, it means your putter face was square at impact and you put a good roll on the ball.  This is also a great putting drill that you can do at home.

2. Check out the diagram below (courtesy of Aimpoint Golf) and you’ll see that the putt needs to start on a line that (if hit straight) would take it outside the apex of the putt. Hold your putter (vertically) out at arms-length and close one eye. If you’re right handed, this would be holding the putter with the grip in your left hand and closing your left eye and find the line that the putt would need to start on (in the first 2-3 ft so that the ball rolls over the apex.

Before you even step foot on the course there are a few things that you should figure out. Granted, you will end up learning and changing things up as you play, but it’s beneficial to start with a strategy that you can test.
Around the green is where better scoring happens. Your Coach works with you to master the many short game shots you will face on the course. With GOLFTEC, you learn to control your contact, spin, trajectory and roll from the fairway, rough, bunkers and fringe.

Putting Mechanics (25 Minutes) The goal of a good putting stroke is to consistently strike the ball solidly in the direction the putter is aligned with the proper pace. This is the essence of putting and, accordingly, this will be the biggest part of your putting hour. Concentrate on five main areas.
Ah, the frustrations of golf. You practice and things just don’t seem to change. Why? B.J. Hathaway, one of the leading junior golf instructors in the Southeast and one of the top mental game coaches in the country, offers two suggestions that will get you on the road to better golf.
Lots of people come to us for the miniature golf experience, but that’s not all we offer. We also have a 52-stall driving range where you and your friends can practice your swing. Of the 52 stalls, 26 are covered and heated which makes them great all year-round. Generate more power by improving your technique—and what better way to achieve that than to practice at the Tee It Up driving range! We offer golf lessons conducted by our pro, Chris Wisler—the 2010 Haverford Trust Classic Champion who is a three-time All-American. Our golf lessons are available to individuals and groups. We also hold Ladies Clinics every Wednesday night as well as 4-Day Junior Camps which are held from Tuesdays to Fridays.
Yes. According to the draft (see “8” below) there will only be 24 Rules in the 2019 Rules of Golf (there are 34 now). Please be aware, though, that the 2019 Rules will also be quite complicated and have a lot of text!
Establishing an identical routine is essential. Check the line (ideally while others are putting out but not in their eye-line), address slightly away from the ball, check your alignment, practice swing to get the feel of the pace, shuffle forward to the ball.
Based on the stats, Aaron Baddeley ranks as one of the greatest putters in modern golf. Last year, he topped the ‘strokes gained putting statistic. In fact, since the start of his PGA Tour career in 2007, he’s only ranked outside the top-15 putters once, and he’s usually been in the top 10.
If you want to shoot lower scores you have to be able to make the short ones, this putting drill will help.  There’s nothing more frustrating than having a 3-foot par putt and walking away with bogey.  It happens to everyone, but the more you practice and learn how to putt consistently, the more you’ll see the ball fall into the hole.
I have already talked about the importance of engaging the bigger muscles to control the swing. If you can do this then all you need to do to hit the ball further is make a slightly bigger swing, master it and you’ll be far better at lag putting.

First in Ali’s beginner golf swing three-step drill, she teaches you how to get used to pulling the club over your shoulder during the backswing and follow-through, bending your right arm at the start and your left at the finish. Next in the beginner golf swing drill, you’ll learn how to double up for success. Ali shows you how to use two clubs to further develop a proper swing plane, being sure to keep the clubs parallel and never let them touch.

Two packs, with each player laying out a 3×3 grid and facing 3 cards at the outset. Pairs do not count, but 3-of-a-kind in a row, column or diagonal scores zero, and a 2×2 block of 4 equal cards scores -25. Player turns over 1 card
Confidence: (10 Minutes) The best putters in the world have the ability to read greens and judge distance correctly. They also have solid alignment routines and fundamentally sound putting mechanics. Their rhythm is flawless and consistent. But these things wouldn’t make them great putters unless they got used to making putts and getting the sensory feedback of seeing and hearing the ball dive into the hole. There’s only one way to get this confidence: Make more putts.
Fun, engaged and concerned only about your satisfaction, I highly recommend Frank. He is engaging, positive and able to explain concepts clearly and concisely. And it’s obvious that your improvement truly matters to him. Added bonus: he made it fun, which is hard to do in 100+ degree heat!…

Here’s a really good drill. Get three or four balls and start at 10 feet. Drop each one two feet apart, putt the first one and gradually work your way back to 50 feet. Learn what it feels like to hit those different putts. Do this as opposed to dropping balls down in one spot and whacking one six feet past and the next one six feet short. If you’re really struggling, start at two feet and end at 20 feet.
My favorite PGA Golf Professional motto is: “He who dares to teach, should never cease to learn.” I am always researching additional means of instructional ideas and communication to enable my clients to achieve their golf potential. If one of my “medications” doesn’t work after I “diagnose” their golf flaw(s), than I will try additional ones until my client achieves the desired result. My simple philosophy is: “I want my client to enjoy learning about their own golf swing and how it compares to a “model” swing such as a PGA Tour Player. During our journey together, I will provide education, entertainment, and enjoyment combined with positive results.”
Some instructors use video technology to record the finer points of a golfer’s swing, and use computer-generated motion analysis on playback to provide tips for improving techniques. Players often get to take the videos home to practice.
So its back to working on my posture, takeaway and backswing in my living room.  If it seems like I’m learning how to swing a golf club again, it’s probably because I’ve never been properly taught how to in the first place, in spite of all that time I clocked in beating balls with a golf pro hovering nearby.  In retrospect, the only thing I managed to get good get at was launching scuffed up balls into a far-off net.

Aussie Kids Golf Academy uses the colorful hat incentive plan. Each level represents certain skill set achievements, building upon the previous lessons while progressing to the next level as seen below:
Many golfers struggle to pick the correct club for chip shots. They use too much loft which makes it tougher to make solid contact, brings backspin into play, and makes judging the roll difficult. Or they use too little loft which makes it difficult to land the ball on the green and easy to hit the shot too hard. The goal of a chip shot should be to land the ball just on the green and let it roll to the hole. Rolling a ball provides better distance control than carrying it in the air. The ball should be landed on the green though as it provides the best surface and most consistent bounce. Focus your club selection on the PW, 9, and 8 irons (keep the sand and lob wedges in the bag for shots that require more loft to land the shot on the edge of the green). Using a combination of these 3 clubs for chipping will provide a good balance of height and roll. It will also reduce your choices simplifying the club selection process. So stop throwing away shots around the green. Use the 3 chipping tips the next time you practice or play and you’ll see more up and downs and less frustration with your chip shots.
Harold says that there are four fundamentals to good putting. To begin with the blade has to be square to the target at both the address and strike positions. The second fundamental is the importance of keeping the blade of the putter square through the path of the hitting area.

I don’t think most golfers appreciate just how many shots they are throwing away with their putter. If you want to better your scores on the golf course and lower your handicap as quickly as possible – improve your putting.
We are asked this question every day, and the answer really depends on your individual goals. Typically we recommend taking at least six golf lessons to be able to work through a game plan with your coach to start to reach your golf lesson goals, but it depends on the student. Our coaches are excellent at putting together a lesson plan that your specific needs. However, our golf lesson packages follow a basic outline that will give you a little bit more clarity on what to expect in general.
Our approach to golf instruction is to help you “see” the club and ball interaction so that you can actually influence it. We help you develop your way of playing your best, not just show you our way and force you to conform to it. You’ll find out that golf really can be fun!
Now the reason I like to do my practice swings before I find my spot, is because if I did them after, I could lose sight of my spot and have to start over, which would disrupt the fluidity of the process.
If you aren’t able to locate a horizontal standard, use the brim of your cap or visor. Better yet, curl your hands around your face, with your fingers above your eyebrows and your palms blocking out your peripheral vision. This creates a pure horizontal directly above your eyes, and it also eliminates a lot of the visual “background noise” that can interfere and confuse your reads.
Most golf equipment companies make three styles of putters — standard, belly putter and the long putter. The putter’s length is important; it affects the distance and directional control of the ball, according to Ralph Maltby, golf equipment expert. To help select the correct length, retailers provide sizing guidelines that match your height to a putter length. These are, however, just guidelines and a good place to start. Although your height is a key factor, your stance, posture and anchor point — with belly or long putters — should also be considered.

If you’ve had a poor grip for some time it may feel uncomfortable to change. But it’s well worth the effort. Follow this lesson, keep a club to hand at home or in the office and make a perfect grip feel like second nature…
The reason everyone can do this properly is because all of these lessons happen before we start moving the club and our body for the swing. Not everyone will create speed in their swing like Tiger, Rory McIlroy or Jordan Speith (sorry!) but everyone can have just as good fundamentals. By learning these little secrets, you will give yourself the best opportunity to improve your distance, accuracy and scores.

Another thing to consider is the company’s refund policy. The better companies stand behind their products with a full money back guarantee, while others only allow refunds of defective products. Make sure you fully understand the billing and refund policy before making a purchase.
If you’re 6 feet or taller, use a 34 1/2-inch putter, and if you’re 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 tall, use a 34-inch putter. Golfers who are 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 should use a 33 1/2-inch putter and a 33-inch putter if you’re 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 8 tall.

That’s my thing with shorter putts. Find a speck of grass or a different piece from the paint on the hole. Then find a good trigger to begin your stroke. Mine is looking at the ball after I’ve looked at the hole and taken three strokes in my pre-shot routine. As soon as my eyes get back to the ball I take it back and hit it. I may do a minor forward press, but it’s not the overall trigger. I look at the ball and go. I’ve done it since I was 16, there’s no change or delay.

My wife had a couple of starter lessons with Peter earlier in the summer and came back so enthused I decided I had to take up golf too! We booked a course of lessons over a two week period with Peter, who came up with a schedule that covered all of the game and gave us an opportunity to play on the course as well as refine our swing on the range, so giving us variety and a great experience of every aspect of the game. Peter was meticulous in his detail of our every move and incredibly attentive and patient. From never having held a club at the beginning of our course I was able to play a round (just!) by the end and the confidence he has given my wife with her game means we have both become a little obsessed! Couldn’t rate Peter highly enough; would strongly recommend his tutoring not just to beginners like ourselves but to anyone who wishes to reassess their game under the courteous and extremely knowledgeable guidance of a real pro. Thanks Peter; can’t wait to come back for more.
Usually the most natural and the easiest to figure out the basics. Throw the putter with spin which helps stabilize the putter and shape your putting line. Can be less consistent than other styles because it requires movement from multiple joints on your body

Nextt aren’t the most well known brand in golf, but their complete beginner sets are rather good. I tested their Z1 Complete 17-Piece Set and was super impressed with it’s performance. Your tendency is to scan the putt from the ball to the hole and back again, or vertically. That’s a good way to determine if the putt is moving uphill or downhill, but it doesn’t help you see how much side-to-side tilt you face. You’ll glean more information by scanning the putt horizontally. Making a side-to-side assessment in your green-reading routine will have you judging break like a cagey pro. Here’s how:
New golfers can start out by taking group lessons at first. Group lessons are less expensive than private lessons, and beginners can learn the basic grip, setup and swing in a group setting. Some people find it comfortable and motivating to learn with others of a similar level. As an added bonus, group lessons can introduce you to other golfers who might become your golfing partners when you are ready to try out your newly learned golf skills on the course.

I used to feel like no matter what I did, I would always suck at putting. I remember feeling like my head was going to explode after having 15-20 foot putts for birdie, and walking off the green with a bogey after a 3-putt…

Specifically, if you miss your putt, are there hazards like water or downhill drops that will affect your second putt? Maybe you’ll want to aim to one side of the basket so you don’t putt toward a hazard. Perhaps there is a puddle near the basket and your putting grip could be affected by a wet disc.

Putters are used on the green. Most people are familiar with these clubs from playing Putt-Putt. Putters come in all types of shapes and sizes, but the two most common are blades and mallet putters. Putters have a flat face that allows you to strike the ball squarely to give it a straight roll. Its primary purpose it to make the ball roll along the ground into the hole. As a beginner I recommend looking for a putter that has an alignment feature to help you line up your putts. Mallets are also easier to learn on as there is generally more feel in these clubs.

You never, ever hit at the ball! You stroke through it. Try putting as normal, probably with a half distance back the same distance through. Did the ball jump and move off line? – and when it slowed, did it take the break quickly? If the ball is hit with a sharp hammer type stroke, the first few inches of the ball’s movement will be airborne.

Each player is dealt 6 cards face down from the deck, the remainder is placed face down and the top card is turned up to start the discard pile beside it. Players arrange their 6 cards in rows in front of them and turn 2 of these cards face up. This arrangement is maintained throughout the game and players always have 6 cards in front of them.

Beginning players can start lesson in several ways, but most do so in either a group or individual setting, covering the five primary skills of golf as noted above golf swing. Golf is an asymmetrical exercise that can break body balances, requiring also adequate exercises to keep the balance in muscles.[1] Experienced recreational players often return for instruction, either to fix a specific problem they are encountering or to improve their game. Reconstruction of a golf swing to reach a high level of play often involves series of lessons over an extended period of time. Junior golfers often begin receiving instruction by age 10 or younger, and often retain private teachers even when coached on a high school golf team.
That is, they concentrate on “rolling” (not “hitting”) the ball over a spot about 6 inches in front of the ball. They still see the whole putt and visualize it going in, but they use their spot to get aligned. Spot putting helps you move closer to achieving the 4 pillars of good putting (you need all of them to putt your best).

The repetition of the drill also helps with those short putts that are infuriating when missed. Sinking four balls in a row from different particular distances will get you comfortable with those distances,  and will increase your confidence when facing those putts on the course. When using this drill, remember to start from a distance where you frequently miss putts on the course. Beginners will want to start closer in, while better putters should start further back.  Begin the drill from a distance where you are less comfortable and keep practicing until you are able to make all four putts.

When you think of golfers whose swings stood the test of time, players such as Sam Snead and Tom Watson come to mind. But as Sergio Garcia defends his title at the Masters in April, it’s becoming increasingly clear his action should be mentioned among the all-time greats.
Another of the 4 pillars of good putting is fluidity (making a tension-free stroke), which spot putting helps us with. The more focused you are on the spot and the line (visualizing the putt), the less you’re focused on your putting stroke. You become more “connected” with the putt. Putting needs to be as fluid as possible – any focus on what your body is doing will affect that fluidity (same as the full swing).
