Many amateur players have very active hands and wrist when putting. This activity causes many inconsistencies in their putting and leads to putts short of the hole or rolling the ball well past the hole. They tend to throw the club head back first on the backswing and then flip the right hand through the Read more…
The ability for golfers to self-diagnose and to fix their swings when shots start flying into neighboring fairways is the end game we all continually strive for.  Golf instruction, whether it takes the form of a one-on-one lesson or is given online with the help of video, is at the end of the day, just a tool to help us teach ourselves.  Learning how to do something well takes time, dedication and focused practice, concepts that are as old as dirt and are the hallmarks of all great golfers, as well as those of us who are aspiring to be great.  With all that being said, it’s time that I got back to digging.
Overall, participants will gain insight into techniques regarding chipping, putting, full swing, half swing and bunker play as well as the fundamental guidelines regarding the use and maintenance of golf equipment, keeping score and navigating the course, among others.  This programs consists of five (5) one hour sessions.  Practice balls, equipment, and greens fees are included.

To improve your swing, you must know why the ball does what it does in flight. That you at least know what really caused the errant shot and perhaps can make the correct fix. You must understand the simple Ball Flight Laws.
Joe Mayo (also known as Trackman Maestro on Twitter) is the director of instruction at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas Nevada. He has also become one of the most significant resources for swing instruction online. Joe challenges all of the commonly-held beliefs about the golf swing through his work with Trackman, and has one of the more unique ways of communicating the golf swing that I’ve ever seen. With reunions and other get-togethers scheduled during the holiday season, most people want to look their best at this time of year. For some, that means filling in those wrinkles with a bit of botox, or having a nip and tuck down here and there. || Posted November 23 2013
I have already talked about the importance of engaging the bigger muscles to control the swing. If you can do this then all you need to do to hit the ball further is make a slightly bigger swing, master it and you’ll be far better at lag putting.

If you’re relatively new to the golf game you are encouraged to visit our section on golf tips for beginners. That section will break down the relatively complex golf game into the core elements you will want to focus on early.
To hit a chip shot solid you need to hit the golf ball, then the ground. In order to achieve this you must strike the ball at or before the bottom of the swing. Getting your weight and golf club leaning slightly forward at the setup are excellent ways to improve contact. At the setup feel 60% of your weight on the forward foot. It will feel as though back shoulder is higher than your front shoulder. This sets your swing into a steeper position allowing for a solid hit. Now the key is to keep the weight there during the swing. Next get the shaft leaning slightly toward the target. A good reference point is to have the grip of the club even with the middle of your forward thigh. This along with leaning forward add just enough steepness to allow for a solid hit on the golf ball.
I teach students of all ages and skill levels using the latest technology with proven results.  Sean began playing at the age of 13. He quickly became a student of the swing; reading every golf magazine he could find and watching numerous golf videos. One in particular stood out–Jack Nicklaus’ “Golf My Way”. That video covered all the basics and was a major influence on his success. After attending Methodist College for Professional Golf Management, Sean joined the PGA of America in 1995 and was elected to membership in 2002. During that time he has competed in many local
6 months ago i stayed in vilamoura with my family for a few days, to enjoy the sun and visit properties with the aim to buy the holiday house i have always dreamed about. I stayed at four seasons hotel and had also planned to play golf. Clare Lester, in charge of the golf section at the hotel, arranged 2 rounds of golf for me: played the old course and the ocean at vale de lobo. Great service from Clare, all went very well and i enjoyed those two great courses. But this is nothing compared to the next thing she organised for me: a lesson with her husband Peter Lester at the pinhal driving range. I have had many lessons in my golfing live (started golf 9 years ago at the age of 38 when i moved to UK). I never had a lesson like that: after 5 swings, Peter knew exactly what i needed to change. Easy to understand instructions helped me so much to improve my swing. Amazing. I went back 2 weeks ago for more house hunting, and the first thing i did before calling any local estate agent was to book a lesson with Peter. He sorted my “long game” before, this time idea was to help my short game. Again, easy to understand what he wanted me to do, but so so different: i really struggled for 5-10 minutes, but as always, Peter told me: you will get there before the end of the lesson and it was right! 30 minutes later, every 20 to 40 yds shot i played was: one, two bounce and backspin to the hole. Like a pro!! Unbelievable given my hcp is 13 and i had lost my confidence so much on my short game recently…. You might think I am speaking nonsense, I promise this is true. Peter is such a nice guy, he loves giving lessons, and he is so so good. If you like golf, don’t go anywhere else than Vilamoura and get a lesson (or more if you can) with Peter. Contact his lovely wife at four seasons, she will sort everything out!

-I’ve been playing golf for over 30 years and feel I’ve learned enough to properly pass on the knowledge through teaching the Whole Game. My life’s goal was originally to become a PGA Touring Professional. -I teach anywhere in San Diego County (I’ll come to you). – After a classic schooling in the game of being taught separate shots and shot making, the realization that to truly play well (low scores), a systematic approach, scientific, if you will, is paramount to good scores through distinct combinations of shotmaking, human psychology and course managment, which took a lifetime to for me to
So its back to working on my posture, takeaway and backswing in my living room.  If it seems like I’m learning how to swing a golf club again, it’s probably because I’ve never been properly taught how to in the first place, in spite of all that time I clocked in beating balls with a golf pro hovering nearby.  In retrospect, the only thing I managed to get good get at was launching scuffed up balls into a far-off net.
Many golfers believe that creating lag is a matter of holding a wrist angle and really pulling down, keeping the wrist and forearm tight and just praying you can keep the angle through the downswing.
Golf instruction may be augmented by training aids such as specially weighting or jointed clubs, putting cups for practice on the den room carpet, mini practice tees with feedback for use in garages, et cetera. Some training aids are sold via television infomercials and the more peculiar varieties were satirized in the 1996 film Tin Cup.

For all courses involving physical activity you must arrive by the published course commencement time or the tutor may refuse to admit you into the session. The agenda for many courses involving physical activity starts with an OH&S briefing and/or a warm-up and to miss either may create a hazard to you, which might exclude you from participation for the session
If you’re like the majority who take this depth-perception test, you ended up pointing to a spot on the ground (or green) well short of the real target, which floods your motor systems with an improper distance to react to. You putt to an illusion instead of the hole. Don’t panic—this is a minor ocular flaw. Yet the effects can wreak havoc on your reads and your score. I’ve developed some quick, easy ways to offset the tricks your beautiful blues can, and will, play on you.

All I read on a putt are the last few feet and how it’s going to go into the hole. I then just let my brain sort of figure out the rest. I don’t read it too closely. I don’t want to overdo the read, or try too hard if that makes sense. You can get the old saying ‘paralysis by analysis’.

Perhaps you play where putts are good “inside the leather.” Or the length of putter. Or, based on Sergio Garcia’s 17-foot concession in the World Match Play Championship, maybe your “gimme” putts are considerably more liberal.

2) Safety Zone Drill: On the green, make a semicircle around the back edge of the hole using the length of your putter as a guide and mark the perimeter with a few tees. From different lengths, practice until you can get 10 putts in a row to come to rest either in the hole or inside this semicircular safety zone.

Not too many years ago I was a beginner, just like you! My main concern when I was looking to buy a set of beginner golf clubs was making sure that they were right for my skill level, and wouldn’t immediately be redundant as I got better. Fortunately, I made the right choice and today I’m a proud 12 handicapper (and improving!)
Sergio Garcia used a driver, 3-wood, and an iron on the green after breaking his putter in Round 3 of the Dell Technologies Championship. While never advisable on the actual green, PGA Pro Lou Guzzi explains how to putt with a club other than a putter.
Putting is a puzzle. Always has been, mostly because almost every golfer on the planet is making it much harder than it needs to be. Do I mean to say you’re doing it wrong? Yes, I do. Think about it. You spend hours using alignment aids and grips to get the putter head to move Read more…

Whilst it is important to get your upper body and balance position correct, one of the most crucial parts of your putting stroke is to understand is the positioning of the legs – actually your knees. Make a putting stroke and see what happens. Move did they? Why?

The second reason is that most golf beginners are worried that a PGA coach won’t want to give lessons to a beginner because they are not good enough, while in fact it is exactly opposite. It is easier to give golf lessons to a beginner as they have not picked up any bad habits on the golf course and therefore can learn to drive, pitch and putt properly from day one and therefore can go on to become good golfers with a decent handicap very quickly.
The third fundamental is to strike the ball with a slight upstroke. This gives the ball a forward roll. The way to achieve this is to position yourself so that the ball is two inches forward of your sternum. Phillip Kenyon demonstrates how to do this.
It’s a simple fact: if you can put the ball in the fairway consistently, you give yourself a great chance at par or better. Conversely, miss the fairway on a regular basis and you give yourself a headache.

Putting Mechanics (25 Minutes) The goal of a good putting stroke is to consistently strike the ball solidly in the direction the putter is aligned with the proper pace. The short game is defined as the shots you hit from within 100 yards to the pin, more or less. It is also often referred to as the scoring game, as shots made here have the greatest impact on your final score. This section explores golf tips for every component of the short game: pitching, chipping, bunkers, and putting.
Some of the world’s best putters play with an open or closed stance – take Jack Nicklaus and Jim Furyk, for example. For me, all you need to align is the putter face, your forearms and shoulders (getting the putter face aligned is the first step). The forearms and shoulders determine the path of the putting stroke, not the lower body. If your shoulders and forearms are pointing to the right of the target line, you’ll push more putts to the right (it’s that simple). There’s no need to worry about the alignment of your feet and lower body (do whatever feels comfortable). When you’re over the ball looking at your spot, start to become conscious of the putter face, forearms and shoulders being square to it.
Our approach to golf instruction is to help you “see” the club and ball interaction so that you can actually influence it. We help you develop your way of playing your best, not just show you our way and force you to conform to it. You’ll find out that golf really can be fun!

So after a some soul searching, not too mention being a little poorer in the pocket, I started tinkering with online golf lessons.  With all the different choices that are available, finding the right program and instructor is a lot like auditioning a promising starlet.  A lot can be determined when she starts reading her lines.  One instructor I began working with barely had anything to say about my swing and immediately jumped to recommending that I practice the 9 to 3 drill to improve my sequencing.  His response felt canned, and it probably was since the program consistently pushed its vast library of instructional videos as the primary means for self-improvement.  After a little more research, I dived into using a different, and frankly, more popular online service that let me scrutinize different instructors by viewing actual sample lessons they gave.  I ended up choosing a Golf Digest Top-50 Female Instructor.  The cost of an individual lesson was $30, which could be further reduced by buying a pack of four lessons in advance.  Considering my instructor’s pedigree, $30 was a bargain, and there’s no way I would’ve been able to afford her lesson fee under different circumstances.

As you gain golf experience you will reach a point where you will want your swing to produce specific shot shapes that are required in certain situations. Indeed, you might be tempted to explore hitting shots that curve around, or under an obstacle. In this section, you will learn to master: how to draw the ball, how to fade the ball, how to increase driver distance and finally how to hit low golf shots.

Well, that depends on how much interest you have in the Rules of Golf. I would definitely recommend that you get the rules book itself. Furthermore, I would recommend that you buy an easy-to-use Rules book (e.g. one with drawings, examples etc.). There are a few good ones of these (see also about the “players edition” below in No. 7).
Good green-readers “work off horizontal.” This term means that they look for a flat line in the background, then compare how much the green around them tilts in comparison. Even on severely undulating greens, horizontal lines are easy to spot. Look for:
5. Our last of our golf putting tips is to recognize your actual target.  On lengthier putts, concentrate on the target, which isn’t inevitably the hole.  Your target could be two inches off to the right of the hole, should you anticipate the break of the green being two inches.  At the outset decide on the break, which might be misleading.  Check the overall shape of the green when you come close to it from your fairway.  If the general contour is inclined in the direction of water, as many do for correct water drainage, that will factor into the break in the green that you study the green.  Other factors that could influence break are speed of the greens (faster greens generally will break greater), how the grass lies following cutting, and powerful wind.

Begin by placing three balls in a line at three, six, and nine feet from the hole similar to the twelve, three, six and nine position on a clock.  The goal is to make all twelve in a row. If you miss any putt, then go back to the beginning and start over.
Start with your practice sessions with your pitching wedge and move through your bag of clubs mastering each one as you go. Avoid using a longer and more difficult club until you are consistently and confidently hitting the shorter ones. Many golfers would be better to avoid the driver for at least the first 18 months of playing!
Comfort and alignment are crucial but the shoulders must be kept square and aligned to the direction of the line on which you want the ball to roll. Try left hand below right, (if you’re a right handed player – and like Jim Furyk or Padraig Harrington); it helps to keep the shoulders square at impact. You may have to adjust to a shorter-shafted putter to get the full value of the stroke.
New golfers can start out by taking group lessons at first. Group lessons are less expensive than private lessons, and beginners can learn the basic grip, setup and swing in a group setting. Some people find it comfortable and motivating to learn with others of a similar level. As an added bonus, group lessons can you to other golfers who might become your golfing partners when you are ready to try out your newly learned golf skills on the course.
Good putters have a great control of distance and can adjust easily to different speed greens. There must be both a lot of feel drills in your practice and an emphasis on distance control when you play.
Pro tip: For at least 10% of your practice, putt with just one ball and treat it like you would on the course.  Mark the ball, read the putt, and go through your routine before rolling it.  It will help you find the rhythm that you will use when you’re actually on the course.

Golf training products generally fall into 3 categories – books, videos, or physical training aid. Each format has its inherent strengths and weaknesses. Books are generally the least expensive, but obviously can’t demonstrate motion as well as video. Training aids have the ability to interact directly with YOUR swing, but generally they can only address 1 aspect of the swing. Video does a great job showing the motions of the swing and can be comprehensive, but is generally more expensive.

Golf instruction is the art of equipping and training golfers to play better golf through improved awareness of swing cause and effects as a result of the actions by their body, the club, and their effect on the golf ball. Most great golfers have a few common elements that make them great including: proper intentionality, swing repeatability to produce an action that fits the golfers intentionality, and a strong level of automaticity for long lasting enjoyment of the game golf. Golf instruction is unique as golf consists of five primary skills: shots from a tee (most notable: driving that uses a driver), full shots from the ground (mostly known as “iron shots”, pitching (or 3/4 shots designed for distance control, chipping (short shots around the green the require less than a full swing), putting (1 club preferably “the putter”) and course strategy or gamesmanship.
Not just for your feet but also knees, hips, shoulders and club face. Most right-handed golfers aim right but this doesn’t always mean the ball will go right as often their swing will compensate for poor alignment. Check your alignment every practice session for the rest of your life!
Once you’ve achieved the correct swing path, rotating your forearms and hands correctly will give you the shot shape you’re looking for (straight or even a soft draw). This drill helps you with correct arm and hand rotation…
The power is generated through the club hinging and re-hinging in the wrists. The looser the wrists, the more clubhead speed that is generated. If you’ve ever had some golf instruction or lessons in the past you will have worked on your wrist hinge but in doing so you were most likely trying to hit the ball solely with your arms. This hitting tightens your wrists and actually slows the club down.
The instructors at The Golf Learning Center will work with your unique game so you can improve your full swing, short game, golf functional fitness, course, and emotional performance, as well as club fitting. Each of these areas are the building blocks of a great golf game, but the mortar is how you practice after you leave The Golf Learning Center. Our instructors will send follow-up material and provide guidance on how to most effectively practice the game.

Finally, every putt is a straight putt and you must strike the ball with a smooth acceleration so that you control the speed of the ball. Many amateurs either hit the ball with a short backswing and a hurried hit, or a long backswing with deceleration, both of which will cause the ball to veer off course.
Ryan is one of the best follows on Twitter, and anyone who knows him is aware he is not afraid to speak his mind. He also happens to know a thing or two about the golf swing, and how to improve a golfer of any level. You can check out his website where he is offering online lessons or his YouTube and Vimeo channels where he is beginning to post regular nuggets of info.
A couple more items: I recommend that you hold the club in your palms so that your forearms and the shaft are on the same plane; this makes them work as one unit. Your shoulders should be parallel to the target line. The back of your neck should be close to horizontal, which will allow your shoulders to move more up and down, which makes the putter swing in a straighter line. It is important that you understand that the set-up will allow the putter to swing in a straight line; you should not try to manipulate the putter with your hands and arms.
The Golf Academy at Troon North was created by Director of Instruction, Doug Hammer.  Doug is the featured instructor for all golf academies at Troon North Golf Club.  The philosophy of our academy is simple, treat each person as an individual and work to improve their skills according to their own abilities and experience.
One common problem with disc golf putting advice is that it is often vague and lacks focus. Many articles providing disc golf putting tips just list out a load to advice, half of which isn’t even helpful. That’s not the best way to approach putting technique. To help, we’ve structured our disc golf putting advice from start to finish.  We’ll also keep adding more putting tips to this article over time so this page is never outdated.

Doug Hammer is a PGA professional and has experience with golfers of all levels from all over the world. His client list consists of beginners to top ranked amateurs and professional players. His philosophy is simple—there is no perfect swing for everyone. Doug is a student of the game and studies every technique to be able to help every golfer, no matter what they may be working on or learning. In addition to helping grow the game of golf through teaching, Doug is also a Callaway Master Club-fitter, and oversees the Callaway Performance Center at Troon North. It is important to have equipment that fits your game—if you are playing equipment that is not correct for you, you may be able to improve your scores by improving the clubs you play.  Club-fitting is an important part of the improvement process and Doug can help you with any equipment questions you may have or can make recommendations for the best clubs to fit your style of play.
In terms of golf shafts there are three main considerations: length, flex and material (i.e. graphite vs. steel). In terms of length, standard men’s clubs are generally suitable for males with a height between 5-foot-8-inches and 6-foot-2-inches. If you fall into this range then standard shaft lengths will be just fine. If you are slightly shorter or taller you can probably also get away with standard length clubs, but if you are significantly shorter or taller then you may want to consider custom fitting. Of course, as a beginner you can probably start with standard fitting clubs and then get custom fitted as you get better. The second consideration is staff flex. Flex can range from very “flexy” to stiff. Most clubs are fitted with standard or regular flex shafts, but if you have a very fast swing then you will want to opt for stiff flex. On the other hand if your swing speed is slow then a flexy shaft is better. In general seniors and ladies who can’t generate a fast swing speed should opt for a flexy shit, otherwise I recommend you go with a regular flex to start out. Finally, shafts come in two main material – stainless steel and graphite. Graphite shafts are lighter, which means one can generate more club head speed. Ideally you should go for woods with graphite shafts as with these clubs you are mainly interested in getting as much distance as possible. In terms of irons it is best to stick with steel shafts, although graphite shafts as a beginner isn’t a bad move.

In the previous tips, (1-11) we have looked at all the basics of putting, stance, grip, eye-line, body movement etc, and now I would like to look at creating the perfect stroke. But before that, a question: How hard do you hit the ball? Answer: Never! – You don’t!
I taught my daughter Ariana these same golf methods and by 8th grade she was shooting in the 60’s in Tournament Golf. Then again as a Junior in high school, she shot 69 in the final round of her High School State Championship and was mentioned in USA Today Sports.
1) Setup And Alignment: With the logo on your golf ball aligned at the proper aiming point, it should be easy to set the putterface to this line. Often, it’s helpful to have a putter with lines or marks to help visualize the alignment. Make sure your arms are hanging freely, that your eyes are over or slightly inside the ball/target line and, most importantly, that your shoulders are square to the target. I use a small mirror to check my alignment and eye position.

Ask Around: Every golf instructor’s best advertising is his or her past students. To get an idea of the best teachers in your area, ask as many golfers as you know. It’s likely that a handful of names will come up frequently, and that list can be your starting point. You may find someone who has taken lessons and can give a glowing recommendation on a particular instructor – or a warning.
Usually the most natural and the easiest to figure out the basics. Throw the putter with spin which helps stabilize the putter and shape your putting line. Can be less consistent than other styles because it requires movement from multiple joints on your body
You don’t really think about how a ball is going to go into the hoop if you’re playing basketball, or a pass in football. You just think about delivering the ball to that person. We tend to over-think putting.

Another of the 4 pillars of good putting is fluidity (making a tension-free stroke), which spot putting helps us with. The more focused you are on the spot and the line (visualizing the putt), the less you’re focused on your putting stroke. You become more “connected” with the putt. Putting needs to be as fluid as possible – any focus on what your body is doing will affect that fluidity (same as the full swing).
Even after crouching, staring and “foot-feeling,” the best players in the world still misread greens. There’s proof every week on Tour. I met with Adam before the 2014 Masters to help refine his technique, which involves reading putts with your feet, not your eyes, and holding up your fingers to pinpoint the correct aim line. Obviously, he’s a quick learner. In 2013, Adam ranked 103rd in Strokes Gained Putting. Last year he was 55th. Expect him to keep trending upward in 2015.

Our Intermediate and Advanced Lessons focus on developing parts of your game most in need of improvement.  Whether on the range, on the course, or both, building the skills to improve your game will make playing golf that much more fun.

What I’m learning now, in addition to swinging a club correctly, is to hold myself more accountable for my golf game.  Taking online golf lessons is akin to walking a tightrope without a safety net.  There’s nobody around to observe your every swing and make corrections.  In truth, this is more indicative of how golf is actually played – on your own, with nothing but the space between your ears to guide you.  In an interview with pgatour.com, Sean Foley was asked if he envisioned a time when Tiger Woods wouldn’t need a coach.
Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. Our beginner section includes tips on proper manners and more, such as how to dress on the course, how to keep score, and even how to save money playing this sometimes expensive game.

Many amateur players have very active hands and wrist when putting. This activity causes many inconsistencies in their putting and leads to putts short of the hole or rolling the ball well past the hole. They tend to throw the club head back first on the backswing and then flip the right hand through the Read more…
I’m a big proponent of practising from inside 10 feet because then you’re going to make a lot of putts and when you see the ball going in constantly, it breeds confidence like nothing else. You need to practise that and give yourself good momentum going into a round.
One key to making more putts is to eliminate as much excess movement in your putting stroke as you can. PGA Professional Matt Hilton has a simple drill to help you do that – and it doesn’t even involve your putter.

Beginner sets also use shafts that are a little shorter in length as this makes it easier to control the club. A shorter length however, does mean less distance. But as a beginner, consistency is more important.

After choosing a putting style and selecting a few putters to try, the next putting tip is simple: PRACTICE!! No need for explanation here, if you want to be a great disc golfer putter then you have to practice.
While this should be consistent across the holes during your round, you should be aware that putters handle differently depending on temperature. Putters are usually more overstable with less glide in cold weather so you may want to land your approach shots in different areas.

Based on the stats, Aaron Baddeley ranks as one of the greatest putters in modern golf. Last year, he topped the ‘strokes gained putting statistic. In fact, since the start of his PGA Tour career in 2007, he’s only ranked outside the top-15 putters once, and he’s usually been in the top 10.
It is worth considering the main differences between irons. You will find that a cast iron golf clubs are unsurprisingly made from cast iron with most of the weight in the golf club distributed around the perimeter. This gives these clubs a larger sweet spot making them easier to use and they make for a really great starter golf club for the beginner or in fact any golfer who might have any sort of problem with making full contact. A forged iron golf club on the other hand is more often the type of golf club used by better golfers and professionals because of its design and the additional functionality it provides. The center of gravity from a forged golf iron is at the front of the club. This makes it a little heavier with a tighter sweet spot. Forged irons are incredibly rewarding for pure hitters of a golf ball, but are very unforgiving of mishits. This makes them a poor choice for beginners.

As an optometrist and sports-vision specialist, I know that’s not the case. Many players I work with are “depth-deficient,” perceiving the location of the hole as closer than it is. In some cases, their perceptual error is 25 percent—that means that a 25-footer looks like it only needs to travel 20 feet. Those five feet of misjudgment cost you.

That’s where this online beginner’s guide comes in. To those who know nothing about golf, our goal is to shepherd you through this uncertainty. What kind of clubs do you need? How do you practice? When do you know that you’re ready for the golf course? The way we see it, the only dumb questions about getting started in golf are the ones you’re afraid to ask, or worse, the ones for which you can’t find an answer. The whole point of this guide is to make sure that last part is no longer a problem. — Sam Weinman
The problem is that when most golfers practice, they want to go out and bang as many range balls with their driver as they can before a round. If they simply spent some of that time on the practice green, they would quickly see improved scores. The green seems to be the mortal enemy for many golfers, and it doesn’t have to be.  Here are three great putting drills to add to your arsenal that will help you become a better putter and consequently, a better golfer.

The fix? On a breaking putt, lean in the opposite direction of the slope you’re standing on, or into the hill. This helps fight the visual distortion that your subconscious leveling system causes. Make it subtle—a little flex in your ankles in either direction will do. Shift your weight into your heels on left-to-right putts, and into your toes on right-to-lefters. Most of my students can aim straight at the hole from 10 feet away on a flat putt, yet mis-aim by two feet from the same distance if the putt has break. It’s because they fail to adjust for the posture change facilitated by our body’s need to make the world around us appear flat.
Once you’ve achieved the correct swing path, rotating your forearms and hands correctly will give you the shot shape you’re looking for (straight or even a soft draw). This drill helps you with correct arm and hand rotation…

I setup a homemade hitting station in my living room and worked on getting into textbook posture and making a proper takeaway.  When learning new movement patterns, the going can be excruciatingly slow.  On average it took me 20 minutes to execute 20 solid reps (the goal being 100 a week).  It also took a degree of patience and blind faith to keep from going immediately to the driving range to scrape balls (or what most people confuse with practice).
All of the fundamental drills and lessons on my website are fully illustrated with sequential still pictures and explained in a step-by-step manner.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the following link…
Some top instructors who work with professional golfers have become quite well known in their own right over the years, including Harvey Penick, Jack Grout, Dick Harmon, David Leadbetter, Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, Chip Thomson, Sean Foley, Quentin Patterson and Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer. Some of the teachers maintain teaching facilities or schools where they or their disciples use their methods or systems. A few instructors focus solely on a particular aspect of the sport, such as Dave Pelz with the short game. Some famous golfers have been tightly bound with their instructor, such as Jack Nicklaus with Jack Grout, while in other cases golfers have made high-profile switches from one instructor to another, such as Tiger Woods moving from Butch Harmon to various other instructors.

Online golf lessons are cheap and fast. And if you do a search on Google, the choices are extensive.  Getting started can be summed up in three steps — shoot a video with your mobile phone, upload it to the one of many different websites that offer the service and await feedback from a PGA professional of your choosing.  By contrast, working with a local pro requires finding one nearby, booking their time in advance and driving however long to the course for the sake of making a couple of dozen supervised swings in less than the time it takes to bake a cake — usually, for a premium fee.

1. Judge distance from the side of the putt, not from behind the ball. This gives you much better appreciation of the overall putt length. Remember how far the putt looks from this perspective, then go back to the ball to complete your read.
Hold up the putter up between finger and thumb and tap the face with the edge of a coin to find the sweet spot – the clubhead will pendulum rather than twist. Mark that spot on the top of the clubhead so you can see it at address. Struck opposite that point the ball will generate overspin and roll.

The reason this section is titled “Golf Tips for Beginners” is because if a new player to the game took their time and learned these sound fundamentals it would make learning a sound swing much easier. I once had a former professional hockey player, who had never played golf before come for a lesson. He understood the value of the basics. We spent an entire hour working only on his grip stance and posture. It would be great if all new players were as patient as him.

The reason everyone can do this properly is because all of these lessons happen before we start moving the club and our body for the swing. Not everyone will create speed in their swing like Tiger, Rory McIlroy or Jordan Speith (sorry!) but everyone can have just as good fundamentals. By learning these little secrets, you will give yourself the best opportunity to improve your distance, accuracy and scores.

Now that I have tested them I can confirm that they don’t disappoint. Like the 2015 version, the 2017 upgrade includes all the same clubs (i.e. driver, #3 fairway wood, a hybrid, irons from 5-PW and a putter), but the design and technology of the clubs has been improved. They now have larger sweet spots to their predecessor and the irons have a wider sole.

We booked a course of lessons over a two week period with Peter, who came up with a schedule that covered all areas of the game and gave us an opportunity to play on the course as well as refine our swing on the range, so giving us variety and a great experience of every aspect of the game. Peter was meticulous in his detail of our every move and incredibly attentive and patient. From never having held a club at the beginning of our course I was able to play a round (just!) by the end and the confidence he has given my wife with her game means we have both become a little obsessed! Couldn’t rate Peter highly enough; would strongly recommend his tutoring not just to beginners like ourselves but to anyone who wishes to reassess their game under the courteous and extremely knowledgeable guidance of a real pro. Thanks Peter; can’t wait to come back for more.
I can’t believe how many treasures are in these videos! Probably have watched every one at least ten times but always learn something new. This video is huge because it really explains the “feeling” of the club almost starting the pivot behind the right leg and the club head getting out where is should be super early.
14 years as a playing professional and still currently playing, taught by and trained by some of the best in world in both in the golf swing and golf fitness.  I teach from a playing point of view.
As a beginner I recommend you get a #4 hybrid and maybe even a #5 hybrid (these two would replace your 3, 4 and 5 iron) – hybrids tend to go a little further than irons so a #4 hybrid would cover the 3 iron too. I recommend Callaway XR hybrids. For more information on beginner hybrids click here.
Two high-speed cameras record concurrent views of your swing from face-on and down the line. Videos are available instantly for regular speed, slow-motion, and frame-by-frame replay of every swing from both angles.
If you want to shoot lower scores you have to be able to make the short ones, this putting drill will help.  There’s nothing more frustrating than having a 3-foot par putt and walking away with bogey.  It happens to everyone, but the more you practice and learn how to putt consistently, the more you’ll see the ball fall into the hole.
Could be a push putt or spin putt. Straddled legs with a hip thrust limits the number of moving joints and reduces side to side movement to greatly improve consistency. Squaring up to the basked can reduce power and distance and may take time to get used to.
If you are looking for the best value beginner golf clubs that can help you improve your golf experience, then the Wilson Men’s Ultra Complete Package Golf Set is your best option. When the original Ultra 2015 series came out I was really impressed, so I was very keen to see what Wilson would come up with for the 2017 version.

4. Put into practice the square to square putting method.  With this easy tactic to use the putter, the blade is going to travel directly back, hitting the ball squarely at impact, and finishing at the hole.  As with each technique in the game, the more basic they are, the more consistent you may become.

If you’ve got a 50-footer and you try to get it in a three-foot circle around the hole, you miss by three feet and you’ve got six feet left. But if you try and make it from 50 feet and you miss by three, you’ve only got three feet left. It sounds simple, but that’s sort of the idea for putting.
San Diego golf is not complete without a mention of La Costa Golf Resort & Spa, which has seen the likes of Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Lanny Wadkins and Tiger Woods on its greens over the years. The PGA Tour has visited here for more than 30 years, and it was home for many years to the Accenture Match Play Championships.

2) Safety Zone Drill: On the green, make a semicircle around the back edge of the hole using the length of your putter as a guide and mark the perimeter with a few tees. From different lengths, practice until you can get 10 putts in a row to come to rest either in the hole or inside this semicircular safety zone.

If you watch your playing partners or pros on TV, see what happens. First the back stroke, then the through the ball stroke and then their finish. Yes – what about the finish? Normally the club head recoils. Try having a practice putting stroke where the finish is held still. This will give you a different feel – more positive – I’m in control!!

Golf (also known as Polish Polka, Polish Poker, Turtle, Hara Kiri, Poison, or Crazy Nines[1]) is a card game where players try to earn the lowest number of points (as in golf, the sport) over the course of nine deals (or “holes” to further use golfing terminology). It is a game for four or more players using a double-deck of 108 cards, and has little in common with its solitaire cousin.
We get it. Golf can seem terribly complicated to the uninitiated. So many rules, so many different kinds of clubs. And then the lingo: birdies, bogeys, bump-and-runs. At Golf Digest, this may be the language we speak every day, but we also know it’s a language that can scare prospective golfers off before they ever pick up a club.

This is a drill that you can practice at home. Just make sure you are on a flat surface where the ball will roll straight. Like the previous drill, this exercise is designed to help you make those must-have short putts while promoting accuracy. It’s also very easy to set up. All you need is a coin or a ball marker, a golf ball, and your favorite flat stick. Just set the coin about a foot in front of the ball and practice putting over it. The goal here is to go right over the top of the coin. Since the coin is a small target, it requires a high degree of accuracy, even from short range.

The fact that setting up correctly can seem so obvious and even a little mundane, is probably why many amateur golfers completely overlook it. But if you fail to check your setup position on a regular basis (every time you practice isn’t a bad idea) it’s so easy to adopt bad habits.

That’s my thing with shorter putts. Find a speck of grass or a different piece from the paint on the hole. Then find a good trigger to begin your stroke. Mine is looking at the ball after I’ve looked at the hole and taken three strokes in my pre-shot routine. As soon as my eyes get back to the ball I take it back and hit it. I may do a minor forward press, but it’s not the overall trigger. I look at the ball and go. I’ve done it since I was 16, there’s no change or delay.
This season’s been good to me: multiple wins, a Solheim Cup victory and the Rolex No. 2 ranking. It’s a story of total game improvement—I’ve been working on everything. Here are five areas where practice paid off. Follow my lead and watch the birdies pile up.
I give a two hour lesson for $50 to get results that day and you can decide if you want to move forward from there. I am old school without computers and trying to make you Tiger Woods with spine angels on the first lesson is crazy, so watch out for those guys. I want to make sure you know how to grip a club and keep you balance with a beautiful relaxed swing before we move on to anything more difficult. I suggest you try a few instructors to find one who can communicate with you you in a way you understand, but if your a beginner you do not need someone with all the techy computers to start.

It was a key moment in the tournament: Seung-Yul Noh, facing a 14-foot par-saving putt on the 17th hole Sunday to keep his lead at three shots. And compounding matters? A gusty, swirling wind that accentuated TPC Louisiana’s undulating greens.

I used to feel like no matter what I did, I would always suck at putting. I remember feeling like my head was going to explode after having 15-20 foot putts for birdie, and walking off the green with a bogey after a 3-putt…

The putting stroke can sometimes only be about six inches long. You don’t have much time to adjust. In the full swing you have more time for adjustment. When you’re putting from three to five feet, your putting stroke is so short, you just have no time for adjustments. You need to have the proper set-up with the putter face aimed where you want the ball to go and that’s 90 per cent of it.
Are you thinking about taking up golf? Keen to get out on the golf course and start whacking that little white ball? Don’t rush out onto the golf course just yet, you need to consider getting some beginner golf lessons before you get started. Golf unlike a lot of other sports is difficult to master even for the most talented athlete. Whilst your enthusiasm and courage will go a long way to becoming a better golfer, it will only take you so far.
Golf is a traditional game, and there are many rules a player needs to know to behave correctly on the golf course. Lessons can include the basics rules of golf and golf etiquette. The teaching pro can inform the beginner about such issues as playing the ball where it lies and conditions when it is appropriate to move the ball; keeping up with the pace of play; preventing distractions on the golf course; and golf cart etiquette, including “cart path only” and “90-degree” rules.

The key to distance control is to roll the ball, not hit it. To do this, take an open stance, your weight slightly favoring your left side and your putter shaft leaning toward the target. The open stance makes it easier to feel the left hand going out and down the target line. The forward lean offsets the 4 degrees of loft I recommend for a putter and helps the ball roll smoothly.
You read almost every putt, but if you’re like most players, your routine is guesswork disguised as green-reading. That won’t get you close to the hole, let alone “in.” You’re not the only one reading, and weeping, on the greens.
Maybe Johnny Cash was referring to golf when he sang “I Walk The Line.” Probably not, but Jason Day suggests amateurs should use more than their sense of sight when trying to read longer putts. His tip: Walk the line and get a feel for the pitch of the green.

The driver is the biggest and longest club in a golf set. The driver has a steep face, usually between 7.5 to 13 degrees, and it is usually only used off a tee. Generally a driver has a long graphite shaft to reduce its weight and increase the club head speed. Head sizes for drivers can vary but the largest is 460cc. As a beginner I recommend you get a driver with a loft between 10 and 11 degrees and a head size between 450 and 460 cc. A graphite shaft is also a must have!
We are asked this question every day, and the answer really depends on your individual goals. Typically we recommend taking at least six golf lessons to be able to work through a game plan with your coach to start to reach your golf lesson goals, but it depends on the student. Our coaches are excellent at putting together a lesson plan that matches your specific needs. However, our golf lesson packages follow a basic outline that will give you a little bit more clarity on what to expect in general.
I can identify with new golfer and higher handicap golfers. I am  able to give my students all of the beginning and intermediate skills at a reasonable rate. I will make putting, chipping and pitching easy for any of my students.  I started teaching golf to high school students in 1985 and have constantly built on my skills.
100% of my clients have shown tremendous improvement after just one lesson. From beginners to advanced players the improvements have all been substantial. I know a number of different swings that can help students of all body types. Whether your goal is low scoring or long drive I can help you get there. I have been teaching golf for over 9 years to people of all ages. I believe that anyone can achieve greatness as long as they put the effort in. I believe in my students and myself which leads to success. The proof in what I teach can be realized after just one lesson.
One tool used by teaching pros to analyze a new golfer’s swing is videotape. Showing the beginner exactly what he is doing wrong can be an effective method in correcting swing faults. The pro can also offer drills to the student for specific purposes. For example, to encourage a complete shoulder turn, the pro may suggest a drill visualizing a vertical line above the ball. When making the backswing, the golfer can strive to have his left shoulder pass the line to the right, and have his right shoulder pass the line to the left on the downswing and follow through.
Aim and alignment forms very much a part of the golf set-up above but is so important it deserves a section of its own. In fact the great Jack Nicklaus once said ‘if you’ve mastered the correct aim and alignment you’ve mastered 80% of the game.
Nowadays drivers come will all sorts of adjustability settings. This can be a little bewildering as a beginner but effectively the adjustability on a driver provides the option to move the weight from the front or back of the club, or left and right (towards the toe and heel). This makes it easier to shape the ball and also give you the player flexibility in setting up the driver to suit your swing.
Easy to understand instructions helped so much to improve my swing.

Next up is the correct way to hold the club. Andy says that when they take on a new pupil, whether he has been playing for six months or ten years, the way that he holds the club is the first thing that they both look at in order to ascertain if there are any problems with it. They go into considerable detail about how to hold the club, showing the back of the leading hand facing the direction in which the ball is required to go and referring to how to “close” the hand on to the grip rather than the term ”grip” the club which is the word many people use. In fact, they use the term “hold” the club rather than “grip” as they say that they don’t want you to “grip” the club too tightly. Then they go into more detail about how to use the other hand, showing a “V” shape between the thumb and the grip.
