Here’s a really good drill. Get three or four balls and start at 10 feet. Drop each one two feet apart, putt the first one and gradually work your way back to 50 feet. Learn what it feels like to hit those different putts. Do this as opposed to dropping balls down in one spot and whacking one six feet past and the next one six feet short. If you’re really struggling, start at two feet and end at 20 feet.

Some training aids are sold via television infomercials and the more peculiar varieties were satirized in the 1996 film Tin Cup.

Many golfers struggle to pick the correct club for chip shots. They use too much loft which makes it tougher to make solid contact, brings backspin into play, and makes judging the roll difficult. Or they use too little loft which makes it difficult to land the ball on the green and easy to hit the shot too hard. The goal of a chip shot should be to land the ball just on the green and let it roll to the hole. Rolling a ball provides better distance control than carrying it in the air. The ball should be landed on the green though as it provides the best surface and most consistent bounce. Focus your club selection on the PW, 9, and 8 irons (keep the sand and lob wedges in the bag for shots that require more loft to land the shot on the edge of the green). Using a combination of these 3 clubs for chipping will provide a good balance of height and roll. It will also reduce your choices simplifying the club selection process. So stop throwing away shots around the green. Use the 3 chipping tips the next time you practice or play and you’ll see more up and downs and less frustration with your chip shots.
Learning how to play golf the correct way is key for all beginner golfers to build a solid swing foundation. Once a beginner golfer develops bad habits, it’s much harder to cure and try to unlearn them than it is to get it right from the start.

Like the Callaway set, the ProStaff irons range from a 6-SW with a hybrid and woods making up for the missing lower irons. I was very impressed with the irons. They have a deep center of gravity, which makes it a lot easier to get the ball of the ground and reduces spin on the ball. This is important as high spin rates mean lots of inconsistency.
Learn your trade on the driving range before you head for the course. Each range session should include 50 balls and should last at least 30 minutes with two practice swings for every ball. Practice with purpose.

This creates a pure horizontal directly above your eyes, and it also eliminates a lot of the visual “background noise” that can interfere and confuse your reads.

One of the most important factors in golf the ball position. Don’t forget it is the back of the ball that you are stroking with the putter, and not the centre. I always teach that the back of the ball is in the middle of your stance, or slightly forward of this, if you are using a square-to-square stroke.
AimPoint’s predictive putt technology can calculate any break on any green. It’s powerful stuff, but some users find it difficult to digest. So we developed a quicker— and easier—way to use it, called AimPoint Express. No sooner did we invent this technique than we caught Adam Scott express-reading his putts at the 2014 Honda Classic. (Turns out his coach, Brad Malone, had taken an AimPoint class, and promptly passed the technique along to Scott.) Adam captured the Crowne Plaza Invitational a few months later, then reeled off 11 straight top 16 finishes, including seven top 10s.
Golf is a traditional game, and there are many rules a player needs to know to behave correctly on the golf course. Lessons can include the basics rules of golf and golf etiquette.
