Do you ever wonder why you see Jordan Spieth looking up at the hole while he putts rather than looking down at the ball? This technique will help with putting speed control. The premise of this drill comes from our basic hand eye coordination of tossing or rolling a ball (Photo 1). Your eyes will figure Read more…
To groove a consistent putting strike, built two gates using tees, as shown. Make the first gate just wider than the putter head, the second just wider than the ball and practise swinging the putter through the first gate to hit the ball through the second. Only with a pure strike will you achieve this.
Our approach to golf instruction is to help you “see” the club and ball interaction so that you can actually influence it. We help you develop your way of playing your best, not just show you our way and force you to conform to it. You’ll find out that golf really can be fun!
Confidence: (10 Minutes) The best putters in the world have the ability to read greens and judge distance correctly. They also have solid alignment routines and fundamentally sound putting mechanics. Their rhythm is flawless and consistent. But these things wouldn’t make them great putters unless they got used to making putts and getting the sensory feedback of seeing and hearing the ball dive into the hole. There’s only one way to get this confidence: Make more putts.
If you want to improve your game, golf lessons are a great option. Your instructor will teach you proper techniques. You will learn how to grip a club, how to swing correctly, and what a good stance entails. It is important to correct any errors before they become a habit and you have to relearn how to play. Golf lessons allow you to learn the right way the first time.
Are you getting reliable feedback to improve your golf swing?  Finally, practice time is taken to a new level.  Our indoor simulators endorsed by the PGA TOUR uniquely capture data for each of your practice shots, and present it in a customized online locker.  You’ll receive detailed feedback for lower scores and longer drives.
Joe Mayo (also known as Trackman Maestro on Twitter) is the director of instruction at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas Nevada. He has also become one of the most significant resources for swing instruction online. Joe challenges all of the commonly-held beliefs about the golf swing through his work with Trackman, and has one of the more unique ways of communicating the golf swing that I’ve ever seen. You can check out some of his in-depth videos on his Vimeo channel here.
2. Check out the diagram below (courtesy of Aimpoint Golf) and you’ll see that the putt needs to start on a line that (if hit straight) would take it outside the apex of the putt. Hold your putter (vertically) out at arms-length and close one eye. If you’re right handed, would be holding the putter with the grip in your left hand and closing your left eye and find the line that the putt would need to start on (in the first 2-3 ft so that the ball rolls over the apex.
If you stare at the ball too long at address, it’s easy to get brain-locked and hit a bad putt. To avoid this, I don’t even look at the ball. Try looking at a spot just in front of the ball on your target line and rolling the ball over that spot. Put a tee in the ground in front of the ball when you practice (right). This gets you thinking about the target line instead of the stroke–the opposite of what most golfers do.
The six golf lesson package is when you will really start to see some serious improvements in your game. It will build off of everything you learn in the introductory package and work on the full swing through all the clubs in your bag. You will begin working on the longer irons, hybrids, fairway woods, and driver.
Golf Instruction can be wide ranging, but many great modern day instructors are able to diagnose and prescribe swing frustrations accurately and present a clear fix that encourages the golfer in the discovery of lasting repeatability from the specific ailment that “plagued” them from a sound repeatable swing to play a golf course successfully (varying terms of success as a golfer ) Many modern instructors include the following in their diagnosis 1. visual feedback through video and bio motion analysis 2. personalized golf club fitting for individual body and swing types 3. on-course play under real conditions 4. mental performance development 5. golf specific body conditioning for optimal golf bio-mechanics
I followed Coach Rusty on Instagram before finding out he was a coach for the app, I immediately downloaded it and started the free trial. I sent in my swing and what I needed help with. Within half a day he sent me a series of videos that would be helpful, a ton of great feedback in comment and a 5 minutes video talking about fundamentals of my swing and how to improve. I absolutely will be subscribing for the year, these guys are knowledgeable and super positive.
Nowadays drivers come will all sorts of adjustability settings. This can be a little bewildering as a beginner but effectively the adjustability on a driver provides the option to move the weight from the front or back of the club, or left and right (towards the toe and heel). This makes it easier to shape the ball and also give you the player flexibility in setting up the driver to suit your swing.
After three weeks I finally took a trip to the range.  Getting into my new posture required very little conscious effort and I made some half decent swings.  I took a few new videos of myself and uploaded them for review.  My instructor acknowledged the hard work I put in, noted that my takeaway was still going back a fraction inside and began to diagram the next phase of my swing reconstruction – improving my backswing.  Although I am in reasonably good athletic shape, I tend to cheat a little bit taking the club up to the top.  The current goal is to get my back to target so that I can finally feel what it means to be loaded onto my right side (as a right-handed golfer).  I’ll need to ingrain this new movement before my instructor and I can tackle sequencing in my downswing.

Start with your practice sessions with your pitching wedge and move through your bag of clubs mastering each one as you go. Avoid using a longer and more difficult club until you are consistently and confidently hitting the shorter ones. Many golfers would be better to avoid the driver for at least the first 18 months of playing!
Once your lessons are booked, make a few notes on questions to ask during the instruction. On the day of your lessons, collect your clubs, and head down to the golf course to meet your instructor. Give yourself enough time to arrive as scheduled for your lesson.

Even after crouching, staring and “foot-feeling,” the best players in the world still misread greens. There’s proof every week on Tour. The Pull Back Putting Drill is well known and for good reason.  It’ll take the stress out of your knee-knockers and have you staring at the bottom of the cup.  Everybody knows the feeling of missing a 6-foot birdie putt… this drill can make sure you never feel it again.  Play this 9-hole pull back putting drill with some friends and you’ll be consistently rolling in 6-8 footers in no time.
Are you thinking about taking up golf? Keen to get out on the golf course and start whacking that little white ball? Don’t rush out onto the golf course just yet, you need to consider getting some beginner golf lessons before you get started. Golf unlike a lot of other sports is difficult to master even for the most talented athlete. Whilst your enthusiasm and courage will go a long way to becoming a better golfer, it will only take you so far.
Online golf instruction can be a murky world. I firmly believe there is no right way to swing a golf club, but there are literally thousands of instructors who all have their version of the golf swing. They have all created videos, articles, and other kinds of resources to teach you their interpretation of the golf swing.
PGA Professional Craig Renshaw, Director of Instruction at Paradise Valley Golf Club, explains why people have difficulty getting their long putts close to the hole and offers ways to remedy this problem.
2. “Walk” off the distance with your stroke. From the side of the putt, point your putter at the ball, then pass it over an imaginary line running from the ball to the cup at the same speed you want the putt to roll (above). Moving your putterhead from the ball to the hole at the proper speed when you’re calculating distance helps your brain move your arms and putter with the correct amount of energy when you putt the ball for real. Yes, you can do this by simply scanning your eyes over the line, but studies prove that using your eyes and hands in tandem enhances brain performance much more than using only your eyes.
No matter whether you’re a weekend warrior or the Golden Bear himself, we all lose power on our golf swing as we age. It’s just a fact of life that we can’t put as much oomph on the ball as we used to. However, while you may not ever get your longest drive back, there
Does it make a difference? Grab a book or magazine and try reading it while tilting it away from your eyes. It’s impossible. The words are blurry, and images on the page narrow toward a vanishing point, like railroad tracks on a long straightaway (above, right photo).
In terms of golf shafts there are three main considerations: length, flex and material (i.e. graphite vs. steel). In terms of length, standard men’s clubs are generally suitable for males with a height between 5-foot-8-inches and 6-foot-2-inches. If you fall into this range then standard shaft lengths will be just fine. If you are slightly shorter or taller you can probably also get away with standard length clubs, but if you are significantly shorter or taller then you may want to consider custom fitting. Of course, as a beginner you can probably start with standard fitting clubs and then get custom fitted as you get better. The second consideration is staff flex. Flex can range from very “flexy” to stiff. Most clubs are fitted with standard or regular flex shafts, but if you have a very fast swing then you will want to opt for stiff flex. On the other hand if your swing speed is slow then a flexy shaft is better. In general seniors and ladies who can’t generate a fast swing speed should opt for a flexy shit, otherwise I recommend you go with a regular flex to start out. Finally, shafts come in two main material – stainless steel and graphite. Graphite shafts are lighter, which means one can generate more club head speed. Ideally you should go for woods with graphite shafts as with these clubs you are mainly interested in getting as much distance as possible. In terms of irons it is best to stick with steel shafts, although graphite shafts as a beginner isn’t a bad move.
That’s where this online beginner’s guide comes in. To those who know nothing about golf, our goal is to shepherd you through this uncertainty. What kind of clubs do you need? How do you practice? When do you know that you’re ready for the golf course? The way we see it, the only dumb questions about getting started in golf are the ones you’re afraid to ask, or worse, the ones for which you can’t find an answer. The whole point of this guide is to make sure that last part is no longer a problem. — Sam Weinman
In 2006 Play-a-Round Golf brought the world of indoor golf to the greater Philadelphia area and it’s grown since then. The expansion of virtual golf continues for Play-a-Round Golf as they open a new location in Ardmore—bringing golf to “Main Street”.
What’s great about this drill is that it also involves a point system that allows you to track your progress and level of improvement over time. If you make the putt, give yourself three points. If you put it within the three-foot circle, give yourself one. You can even create your own point system that rewards you for making longer putts, like 40 and 60 footers. Make sure to keep track of you score, so that the next time you use the drill, you will be able to see if you are getting better.

While most us take the greatest satisfaction from hitting a crisp drive that splits the fairway in two, it’s your pitching, chipping and putting that ultimately gets the ball close, and into, the hole.
For example, on a left-to-righter, the natural tendency is to lean with the slope as you settle into your address position, toward your toes, until your eyes are level with the tilt of the green. You do it without even thinking. But that makes your eyes shift outside the ball, causing you to aim left of your chosen line. The opposite happens on right-to-left putts; you lean toward your heels, shifting your eyes inside the ball, and you aim too far to the right. Hey, it’s just our natural design, but it’s a huge putting problem, compounded by the fact that your shoes feature heel wedges that slope as much as two degrees—an added tilt that further distorts your feel for break at address.
The clock drill is one of the best ways to improve your consistency on 3-8 foot putts.  It’s been claimed that Phil Mickelson completes this drill (along with similar chipping drills) at least once during every one of his practice session.   You’re guaranteed to have these putts throughout your round and seeing them drop can make all the difference.
These are several ways to get my free help for your game. Please choose whichever method suits you best.  I truly look forward to helping you with your game.  I am excited to help with your putting, short game, driver or whatever area needs help.
The key to distance control is to roll the ball, not hit it. To do this, take an open stance, your weight slightly favoring your left side and your putter shaft leaning toward the target. The open stance makes it easier to feel the left hand going out and down the target line. The forward lean offsets the 4 degrees of loft I recommend for a putter and helps the ball roll smoothly.

Private Lessons vs. Golf Schools: Private lessons and golf schools are the two typical ways to receive golf instruction. Both have strengths. Private lessons allow for follow-up visits over a period of time – a building block approach to learning golf. Schools offer an intensive amount of learning in a short time, but can also offer too much information and without much follow-up. On the other hand, private lessons can take months to complete.
It is worth considering the main differences between irons. You will find that a cast iron golf clubs are unsurprisingly made from cast iron with most of the weight in the golf club distributed around the perimeter. This gives these clubs a larger sweet spot making them easier to use and they make for a really great starter golf club for the beginner or in fact any golfer who might have any sort of problem with making full contact. A forged iron golf club on the other hand is more often the type of golf club used by better golfers and professionals because of its design and the additional functionality it provides. The center of gravity from a forged golf iron is at the front of the club. This makes it a little heavier with a tighter sweet spot. Forged irons are incredibly rewarding for pure hitters of a golf ball, but are very unforgiving of mishits. This makes them a poor choice for beginners.
Not too many years ago I was a beginner, just like you! My main concern when I was looking to buy a set of beginner golf clubs was making sure that they were right for my skill level, and wouldn’t immediately be redundant as I got better. Fortunately, I made the right choice and today I’m a proud 12 handicapper (and improving!)

While playing golf you will also encounter trouble shots on a regular basis. These shots have lie conditions that differ from the normal good lie on a flat surface. As such, they require adjustments to your swing in order to produce the results you are looking for. These video golf tips explore how to hit trouble shots.
Perhaps you play where putts are good “inside the leather.” Or the length of putter. Or, based on Sergio Garcia’s 17-foot concession in the World Match Play Championship, maybe your “gimme” putts are considerably more liberal.
This will not only work on your rhythm and confidence, but also give you practice putting in pressure situations.  By the time you get to the 11th and 12th ball it will feel like your on the 18th trying to make a 9-foot putt to win the club championship.

If you aren’t able to locate a horizontal standard, use the brim of your cap or visor. Better yet, curl your hands around your face, with your fingers above your eyebrows and your palms blocking out your peripheral vision. This creates a pure horizontal directly above your eyes, and it also eliminates a lot of the visual “background noise” that can interfere and confuse your reads.
A putter is a really personal thing in golf, so there really isn’t a recommended option. The main thing to look for in your putter is comfort and feel. I recommend you take some time to test many putters to see which leave the biggest impression on you.

Comfort and alignment are crucial but the shoulders must be kept square and aligned to the direction of the line on which you want the ball to roll. Try left hand below right, (if you’re a right handed player – and like Jim Furyk or Padraig Harrington); it helps to keep the shoulders square at impact. You may have to adjust to a shorter-shafted putter to get the full value of the stroke.
You will learn about ball flight and how to control the ball which will help you become a better player. The sessions will also feature instruction on short game, full swing, on-course play and how to practice.

If you believe the old axiom, “you get what you pay for”, then traditional instruction should easily trump any lesson you take online.  The individualized attention you receive from working side-by-side with an instructor has undeniable merit.  The question then is how much is that benefit worth?  In 2011, I took lessons from a PGA professional twice a month, surrendering over $1400 in a single year.  And that’s just a tiny fraction of the cost some recreational golfers pay to learn from a top-tier instructor.  I could have justified the continued expense had I not felt that my golf (particularly the long game) had stagnated.

Wedges are really important clubs in your bag as they are used to get the ball near the pin when you are not far away from the green (i.e. from about 100 yards in). There are many different types of wedges ranging from high 40 degree pitching wedges (PW) to sand wedges (SW) and even 60 degree lob wedges. The high loft in wedges allow one to get under the ball and launch it really high. This makes it easier to stop the ball near the pin and also backspin the ball.

After this, he suggests that you should always warm up before playing golf, even if it is only on the practice range. Although golf is not as physical an activity as some sports, you use a considerable number of muscles so a regular warm up routine is essential. Five or ten minutes of stretching can help to avoid pulled muscles, or even more serious injuries.

Long putters are usually between 46 and 53 inches, but can be more or less for very short or very tall golfers. If you’re 6 feet 2 or taller, use a 54-inch putter, and if you’re 6 feet 1 to 6 feet 2 tall, use a 53-inch putter. Guidelines recommend a 52-inch putter if you’re 6 feet to 6 feet 1 tall and a 51-inch putter if you’re 5 feet 11 to 6 feet tall. If you’re 5 feet 10 to 5 feet 11, use a 50-inch putter and a 49-inch putter if you’re 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 tall. A 48-inch putter is a good size if you’re 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 9 tall, and if you’re 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 8 tall, use a 47-inch putter. A golfer who is 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 7 tall should use a 46-inch putter, and if you’re shorter than 5 feet 6, use a 45-inch putter.

As I have already covered in the section on drivers above, the best drivers have a large head size. Ranging from 440-460cc. I recommend you look for a driver with a head size greater than 440 cc. This will maximize the sweet spot and provide loads of forgiveness on mishits.
Finish your hour by making as many short putts as you can in a row. My personal best is 56, but set yourself a goal of, say, 10 or 15. Make them short, two or three feet. Place them on different angles to the hole and treat each putt as if it was for a big tournament win. Use your imagination and envision yourself sinking a three-footer to beat Tiger in a sudden-death playoff. Dream a little and build a better mental outlook on your putting.
Place three balls in a row along the same line at equal distances.  I suggest 3, 6, and 9 feet to start.  Roll putts starting from the ball closest to the hole and moving outward.  This is a great drill to find rhythm before heading out on the course, or when you’re finishing up your practice for the day.

Many amateur players have very active hands and wrist when putting. This activity causes many inconsistencies in their putting and leads to putts short of the hole or rolling the ball well past the hole. They tend to throw the club head back first on the backswing and then flip the right hand through the Read more…

When you make the stroke, keep the putterhead low to the ground past impact, like Ron is demonstrating (inset). The putter will ascend slightly, but don’t try to hit up on the ball — whoever told you to do that was wrong, because it makes the ball hop.
Tossing the putter with as little spin as possible by flicking with supporting fingers and snapping at the hips. Less spin helps to keep the putter flight pure and on a straight line as well as reduce chain spit-outs and less wrist movement helps with consistency. Doesn’t feel as natural and is more difficult to putt from long distances.
Hi, my name is Kris Ruiter and I am a personal golf coach.  Golf has been a part of my life for over 30 years, with 15 years of those dedicated to teaching. I have enjoyed teaching golf in both Canada and the U.S.A. I have worked with the aspiring playing professional to the new player who has never touched a club in their life.  I love the challenge and the fun of working with players of all levels. One of my favorite teaching days of all time was back to back lessons with a 12 year old girl then an 82 year old man.  Neither of them had ever touched a club before. It was such a fun day…as was the day when one of my competitive players made a career best 9 birdies in a competitive round.
For putting practice, I recommend the following routine, which places an emphasis on the most important aspects of becoming a good putter. This practice schedule is simple to follow and doesn’t require a lot of time (an hour to be exact). So the next time you face difficult, lightning-fast greens, such as those featured here on Kiawah Island, you’ll be prepared to hole more putts and post your best scores ever.

Now the reason I like to do my practice swings before I find my spot, is because if I did them after, I could lose sight of my spot and have to start over, which would disrupt the fluidity of the process.
Now you have gripped the putter correctly, it is important to realise that the length of the shaft is the predominant factor in getting your eyes directly over the ball, as this is important for getting a consistence in reading the putting line from ball to hole, or target point. This line is always the same, whether 3 ft or 30 ft long.

I’m a great believer that if you practice with purpose, you need a lot less of it. I see so many golfers on a day-to-day basis who just pound ball-after-ball-after-ball in the hope that pure repetition will lead to success. In my experience, it doesn’t.

I setup a homemade hitting station in my living room and worked on getting into textbook posture and making a proper takeaway.  When learning new movement patterns, the going can be excruciatingly slow.  On average it took me 20 minutes to execute 20 solid reps (the goal being 100 a week).  It also took a degree of patience and blind faith to keep from going immediately to the driving range to scrape balls (or what most people confuse with practice).
To improve your swing, you must know why the ball does what it does in flight. That way you at least know what really caused the errant shot and perhaps can make the correct fix. You must understand the simple Ball Flight Laws.
Place a tee in the ground in a line 10 feet, 20 feet, 30 feet and 40 feet away. In this drill, you are attempting to control the distance you hit each putt. The ladder drill begins by hitting a putt to the first tee, which is 10 feet away. Next, hit a 20-footer, than 30-footer followed by a 40-foot putt. The idea is to get the ball to stop as close to each tee as possible. The next step is to theoretically close the ladder. From the first tee, hit a 30-foot putt, followed by 20-foot putt followed by a 10-foot putt to the final tee.  At the conclusion, you have successfully opened and closed the ladder. The drill continues by going through the same sequence from the opposite direction. If the first putts were all uphill, you are now faced with a series of difficult downhill putts. Once you can successfully navigate this drill, your feel on the greens should improve.

You’ll achieve a much more consistent “roll” on the ball, which is the most important factor in good putting. Not “trying” to make putts, but instead hitting a solid putt to an intermediary target will make you a much better putter.
2. Try to leave yourself with an easy, uphill second putt.  To term it in a different way, if you will miss, miss on the downside of the target.  A four foot straight, uphill putt isn’t all that hard.  Just hit it straight.  However a two foot, downhill putt which includes a break is generally precarious.
Get a metal meter stick and place it six feet away from the hole (or any target) on the line where the ball should start off the putter face.  Set the ball on the end and hit your putt.  If the ball stays on the meter stick the whole way, it means your putter face was square at impact and you put a good roll on the ball.  This is also a great putting drill that you can do at home.
Students ask all the time if they should take a practice swing or not. In response, I ask if they do in fact partake in this all important facet of the game. The answer usually comes back “sometimes.” That’s like admitting we would “sometimes” like to hit a good shot.

1. The first of our golf putting tips is to get it within two feet.  If you are in three putt territory, or maybe the very challenging downhill or side hill golf putt, imagine simply putting the golf ball within a two foot radius from the hole.  Using this large of an area to shoot for, stress will be reduced, and greater relaxation is going to breed far more consistency.  Only don’t take that short putt for granted.

So after a some soul searching, not too mention being a little poorer in the pocket, I started tinkering with online golf lessons.  With all the different choices that are available, finding the right program and instructor is a lot like auditioning a promising starlet.  A lot can be determined when she starts reading her lines.  One instructor I began working with barely had anything to say about my swing and immediately jumped to recommending that I practice the 9 to 3 drill to improve my sequencing.  His response felt canned, and it probably was since the program consistently pushed its vast library of instructional videos as the primary means for self-improvement.  After a little more research, I dived into using a different, and frankly, more popular online service that let me scrutinize different instructors by viewing actual sample lessons they gave.  I ended up choosing a Golf Digest Top-50 Female Instructor.  The cost of an individual lesson was $30, which could be further reduced by buying a pack of four lessons in advance.  Considering my instructor’s pedigree, $30 was a bargain, and there’s no way I would’ve been able to afford her lesson fee under different circumstances.
Also known as the “clock drill”, this exercise requires consistency and focus. Start off by finding some space on the putting green, pick a cup to shoot towards and set up four golf balls around it. The balls should be the same distance from the cup and the goal is to make all four before moving the balls back a foot and trying to sink each one from that distance. If you miss, you have to start over. The drill simulates the pressure you can sometimes feel on greens during a round, and thus help you prepare for it.

On the practice green concentrate on good technique and consistency by holing a succession of four-footers. It will give you confidence in hearing the ball rattle into the cup rather than randomly firing long-range putts that never go in and ruin your focus.

Aim and alignment forms very much a part of the golf set-up above but is so important it deserves a section of its own. In fact the great Jack Nicklaus once said ‘if you’ve mastered the correct aim and alignment you’ve mastered 80% of the game.

Making the Choice: After these steps, you should be ready to make your choice. It’s important that you choose an instructor whose personality meshes with yours. Going to a teacher you don’t like will keep you from learning. It’s important that an instructor’s goals match yours, and that your commitment matches your goals. Once you’ve made your choice, throw yourself into it – and watch your scores improve.
His instruction approach is to focus on the fundamentals of the game, including correcting your starting position or setup, as well as grip, aim, parallel body lines, and posture as the foundation of an accurate, powerful swing. After fully addressing these critical points, he moves into back swing, downswing, and strike point for a consistent delivery of club to ball. Finally, the finish position is monitored to ensure that you are maintaining the proper balance for shot accuracy, velocity and control.
If you watch a good chipper you’ll see that their backswing and follow through are similar sizes. You see a lot of golfers who struggle with chipping making big backswings with little follow through or the opposite, making a small backswing and over accelerating into the ball. A balanced chip shot swing leads to good tempo and makes it easier to deliver the clubface solidly on the back of the ball. It also reduces the desire to “hit” the ball when chipping. Good chippers make a smooth balanced swing and let the ball get in the way. Make some practice strokes with your chipping club and feel the club moving back and forth in nice balanced and smooth motion. Do this without a ball until you get the feeling then add the golf ball. The goal with the ball is the maintain that same balance and tempo. This will lead to solid shots and better distance control.
Every great golf swing rotates around the body in what is known as the golf swing plane. This movement gives the golf club the best chance of returning the golf club to the exact position required to make solid contact with the golf ball.
For beginners, in lessons 4, 5 and 6, you will also start working on short game and putting. Don’t let yourself think this isn’t as much fun as whacking balls on the driving range, this is BY FAR the most important aspect of golf. That’s why they say “Drive for show, putt for dough!”
Beginner sets also use shafts that are a little shorter in length as this makes it easier to control the club. A shorter shaft length however, does mean less distance. But as a beginner, consistency is more important.

3. Next move your focus (along the shaft of the putter) to about six inches in front of the ball and find a spot. This could be a discolored piece of grass, a spike mark or whatever you can pick out. If you the roll the ball over that spot, you will be hitting the ball on the line to take it over apex and if the speed is right, you’ll hit a perfect putt every time.

To keep me from being overwhelmed, she advised me to fix my swing in chunks, starting with posture.  To help me improve, she recommended that I increase my hamstring flexibility.  So as part of my daily fitness routine, I began using an elastic stretch band to pull my legs straight back towards my chest while lying on my back.  As for my takeaway, my instructor suggested an often-prescribed drill of placing a golf ball six inches behind my club and brushing it straight back when initiating my backswing.
Private lessons give you the individual attention you need once you learn the basics. A small adjustment in the stance, grip or posture can make a big difference in the trajectory of the ball. With one-on-one instruction, the golf pro can focus on changes you need to make to achieve distance and accuracy.

4. Put into practice the square to square putting method.  With this easy tactic to use the putter, the blade is going to travel directly back, hitting the ball squarely at impact, and finishing at the hole.  As with each technique in the game, the more basic they are, the more consistent you may become.
That is, they concentrate on “rolling” (not “hitting”) the ball over a spot about 6 inches in front of the ball. They still see the whole putt and visualize it going in, but they use their spot to get aligned. My Teaching Philosophy No two students are the same, so I teach the basic techniques using each individual’s natural abilities to build their game. I never change someone’s swing. Your swing is like your fingerprint – yours and yours alone. The goal is to take your natural swing and create rhythm and consistency. I build a player’s game around the basic fundamentals (grip, set up, aim, posture, balance). Once the fundamentals are in place, we work on each area of the game from full swing to putting. I have a very relaxed teaching style using lots of positive reinforcement and encouragement to

Make it subtle—a little flex in your ankles in either direction will do. Shift your weight into your heels on left-to-right putts, and into your toes on right-to-lefters. Most of my students can aim straight at the hole from 10 feet away on a flat putt, yet mis-aim by two feet from the same distance if the putt has break. It’s because they fail to adjust for the posture change facilitated by our body’s need to make the world around us appear flat.
And if you are spending money on golf as you get into the game – buying new clubs, nice clothes, paying green fees – then spending a little bit more on lessons is a good idea. (Not to minimize the costs involved – golf can be an expensive hobby.)
Book a club-fitting session with a member of our Golf Learning Center staff and experience the precision of the Trackman 3D Doppler Radar launch monitor, allowing you to test equipment and receive measured results. Before you start bombing them down the fairway, there are some fundamental golf tips that all beginner golfers should know. This section of How To Play Golf beginner golf tips and lessons, lays out the basics from the initial correct addressing of the golf ball all the way to the final follow through.

Having trouble controlling the distance your putts travel? The most important element of putting is being able to control distance. Why? Because “Distance Controls Direction.” A putt that travels beyond the hole will curve less, while a putt that is barely making it to the hole will curve much more. That’s why you should seek to Read more…
One of the first things I do with a new client is to make sure they don’t suffer this malady, which is as common as freckles—and just as threatening if left untreated. Give yourself an “eye exam,” using the depth-perception test above.
I teach students of all ages and skill levels using the latest technology with proven results.  Sean began playing at the age of 13. He quickly became a student of the swing; reading every golf magazine he could find and watching numerous golf videos. One in particular stood out–Jack Nicklaus’ “Golf My Way”. That video covered all the basics and was a major influence on his success. After attending Methodist College for Professional Golf Management, Sean joined the PGA of America in 1995 and was elected to membership in 2002. During that time he has competed in many local
Once you have positioned yourself properly in front of the ball during the setup the next part involves actually hitting the ball. While the golf swing is certainly complex in itself, it can be broken down into swing sequences that you should strive to master. They are: takeaway, backswing, top of the swing, downswing, impact, extension & rotation, and the follow through.
• The stroke: Set-up to the ball. Rotate your head so your eyes track in a straight line to your aiming point and back (not the hole except for straight putts). Make your best stroke. Keep everything still until the putter stops then rotate you head to watch the ball. Hold this position until the ball stops rolling.
Golfers can find deep discounts from instructors or clubs that offer group rates in conjunction with multiple-lesson discounts. A package of six sessions for two golfers is around $450 for hour-long sessions ($37.50 per session), but the price drops to $25 per golfer for a group of five that buys six hour-long sessions for a total of $750.
Try putting with a quarter distance back stroke and a longer three-quarter distance follow through. This will lead to greater acceleration. Now you will find that the ball gets to roll much quicker than before – it stays straighter longer and fights against taking the break (if there is one).
Then invite me to a shared album through Apple Shared Stream or Google Photos.  This way you can upload videos or pictures of your swing for me to analyze.  I can then attach comments to your videos and pictures, and I can even upload some of my own pictures and videos to help your game.
However, how do you know which are the best golf clubs for you? There are golf clubs with steel shafts and golf clubs with graphite shafts (much more expensive, but lighter in weight). There are big headed golf clubs, cavity back golf clubs, and many more.
You never, ever hit at the ball! You stroke through it. Try putting as normal, probably with a half distance back the same distance through. Did the ball jump and move off line? – and when it slowed, did it take the break quickly? If the ball is hit with a sharp hammer type stroke, the first few inches of the ball’s movement will be airborne.
Ah, the frustrations of golf. You practice and things just don’t seem to change. Why? B.J. Hathaway, one of the leading junior golf instructors in the Southeast and one of the top mental game coaches in the country, offers two suggestions that will get you on the road to better golf.
Harold says that there are four fundamentals to good putting. To begin with the blade has to be square to the target at both the address and strike positions. The second fundamental is the importance of keeping the blade of the putter square through the path of the hitting area.

“Michelle is very understanding and really works with you to find your voice! I noticed a difference in my voice in the first lesson alone. She provides constructive feedback and creates an environment that is supportive and lets you be yourself. Her positive attitude helped me to believe in myself. I greatly enjoyed with Michelle! P.S. Her voice is amazing!”
The reason this section is titled “Golf Tips for Beginners” is because if a new player to the game took their time and learned these sound fundamentals it would make learning a sound swing much easier. I once had a former professional hockey player, who had never played golf before come for a lesson. He understood the value of the basics. We spent an entire hour working only on his grip stance and posture. It would be great if all new players were as patient as him.

Many people know what golf is, but have little knowledge about playing the game. A large course, expensive clubs, and advanced techniques may be intimidating to first-time golfers. The only way to move past the fear is to engage with other beginners and learn from experienced players. If you want to get on the course, but have no clue how to start, consider taking golf lessons. The following are five benefits of taking golf lessons as a beginner.

To improve your swing, you must know why the ball does what it does in flight. That way you at least know what really caused the errant shot and perhaps can make the correct fix. You must understand the simple Ball Flight Laws.

I like to see the putter relaxed in your hand – it is necessary to control the putter head, as it can weigh as much as half a kilo. It is important to lock the grip in your hands with the soft thumb pad in both hands, and the forefinger on your left – this will help to stop the putter from twisting off line, plus curling the right hand forefinger underneath the shaft (not down).

Beginner sets also use shafts are a little shorter in length as this makes it easier to control the club. A shorter shaft length however, does mean less distance. But as a beginner, consistency is more important.
Balboa Park Municipal Golf Course dates back to 1915 and was designed by famed course architect William P Bell. Located downtown, it is a small course that looks easier than it actually is. In addition to the 18-hole course there is a nine-hole course, a driving range, putting greens and a coffee shop. The planes coming in to land at Lindbergh Field form an impressive backdrop.
I often see players attempting to control the distance they hit the ball on the green through the speed of the stroke, but this will not deliver the best consistency. So engage the big muscles, turn around your spine and let the length of the stroke dictate distance.
My entire life has been spent around professional golf. Growing up as a son of a World Golf Hall of Fame member, I spent my childhood traveling the world and immersed in professional golf. I retired from professional golf in 2012 and moved my focus to teaching and helping others improve their game. My client list includes high school and college golfers as well as members of both the PGA Tour as well as The PGA Tour Champions. I have worked with multiple Major Champ
In contrast to other sports, in golf the ball doesn’t move prior to hitting it. This means you can and should carefully position yourself while you set up for a shot. We cover the many aspects of the golf setup in this section, from alignment, stance, distance to the ball, ball position, position of the hands, posture as well as the golf grip.

When a golfer can match themselves with an instructor who matches their learning style, then good things can happen. As always, my recommendation is that if you can’t understand something, then it’s time to move on.
