Thanks Tom! Appreciate you reading. Alignment is without a doubt the biggest cause of missed putts vs poor technique, yet so many amateurs don’t want to practice it. For me it’s worth getting this right on the practice green and making the spot technique a habit. If all the best players in the world do it, it says something! I also wrote about eye dominance and why this is important in finding the spot in my latest article.
After this, he suggests that you should always warm up before playing golf, even if it is only on the practice range. Although golf is not as physical an activity as some sports, you use a considerable number of muscles so a regular warm up routine is essential. Five or ten minutes of stretching can help to avoid pulled muscles, or even more serious injuries.

Another trick to free your mind is to picture the ball going in on the high side of the hole on a breaking putt. Most golfers miss low. For this left-to-right putt (below), I want the ball to enter the cup well left of center.

Establishing an identical pre-shot routine is essential. Check the line (ideally while others are putting out but not in their eye-line), address slightly away from the ball, check your alignment, practice swing to get the feel of the pace, shuffle forward to the ball. One look then pull the trigger, smoothly back and through.

My hope is to make Practical Golf one of the leading resources that golfers can go to for honest information, but I’m not the only one out there with this goal. Here are other resources that I have learned from personally, and I believe you can too.
5) Rhythm: (20 Minutes) A successful, consistent putting stroke must have rhythm, one that takes into account your inherent sense of tempo and the need to create equal backstroke and forwardstroke lengths. The best way to practice rhythm is to use a metronome. Set it between 54 and beats-per-minute. Experiment until you feel a beat that’s attuned to your personal body rhythm. Next, try to make some practice strokes with the end of the backswing occurring on one click and the end of the forward motion on the next click. Keep swinging and let the rhythm ingrain itself into your system. With practice, the tempo will grow to become a natural part of your swing.
Improve your putting from long range. Give yourself the opportunity to make short putts inside 5 feet from the hole. Percentages that you’ll make a putt dramatically decrease the farther away you are from the hole. The ladder drill is designed to improve putting from longer distances.
Golf instruction is no guarantee of success or improved play in the game. Bad mechanics can be deeply ingrained in a subject’s swing, and psychological factors can also hinder progress. The 2009 Golf Channel program The Haney Project: Charles Barkley showcased some of these issues, as Hank Haney attempted to fix former NBA great Charles Barkley’s infamously bad swing.[2]

In the previous tips, (1-11) we have looked at all the basics of putting, stance, grip, eye-line, body movement etc, and now I would like to look at creating the perfect stroke. But before that, a question: How hard do you hit the ball? Answer: Never! – You don’t!
If you shot a free throw with your right hand only, you’d realize you need your left hand as a guide. The same is true on the greens: The left hand is the direction hand, and it’s just as important as the right. Practice putting left-hand-only (right), or have someone hold a club in front of your hands on the target line. Bump the grip with the back of your hand, not your fingers, like Dave Jr. is doing.

I’m going to let you in on one of my favorite putting secrets. In 1981, when my Florida Southern team arrived at Hop Meadow in Simsbury, Connecticut just outside Hartford, we encountered a long, tight course with deep rough and fast, undulated putting surfaces. The problem is that when most golfers practice, they want to go out and bang as many range balls with their driver as they before a round. If they simply spent some of that time on the practice green, they would quickly see improved scores. The green seems to be the mortal enemy for many golfers, and it doesn’t have to be.  Here are three great putting drills to add to your arsenal that will help you become a better putter and consequently, a better golfer.

Good green-readers “work off horizontal.” This term means that they look for a flat line in the background, then compare how much the green around them tilts in comparison. Even on severely undulating greens, horizontal lines are easy to spot. Look for:

Throwing the disc overhand while supporting with thumb underneath the middle of the flight plate and fingers along the rim, almost like throwing a football or darts. High-level golf is about scoring. The skills include developing a reliable shot pattern, making good decisions on the course, and not wasting strokes around the greens. With our newest video curriculum, you can get an upgrade in all of these areas—and watch your scores drop.
2) Safety Zone Drill: On the green, make a semicircle around the back edge of the hole using the length of your putter as a guide and mark the perimeter with a few tees. From different lengths, practice until you can get 10 putts in a row to come to rest either in the hole or inside this semicircular safety zone.
I followed Coach Rusty on Instagram before finding out he was a coach for the app, I immediately downloaded it and started the free trial. I sent in my swing and what I needed help with. Within half a day he sent me a series of videos that would be helpful, a ton of great feedback in comment and a 5 minutes video talking about fundamentals of my swing and how to improve. I absolutely will be subscribing for the year, these guys are knowledgeable and super positive.
The third fundamental is to strike the ball with a slight upstroke. This gives the ball a forward roll. The way to achieve this is to position yourself so that the ball is two inches forward of your sternum. Phillip Kenyon demonstrates how to do this.
Our bodies are wired to see things as level. Your subconscious likes flat. Unfortunately, this internal gyroscope is causing you to mis-aim your putter at address, spoiling your good reads (when you make them).
Not too many years ago I was a beginner, just like you! My main concern when I was looking to buy set of beginner golf clubs was making sure that they were right for my skill level, and wouldn’t immediately be redundant as I got better. Fortunately, I made the right choice and today I’m a proud 12 handicapper (and improving!)
I also like to have my students not think about hitting the ball. Even thinking about hitting the ball can interfere with focus on the line (which is where it all needs to be). It’s a stroke that the ball gets in the way of.
When the LPGA enforced a stricter code on plunging necklines last year, Paige Spiranac cried foul — and still turned heads with a style that says, well, Game on. It’s one she picked up from another flashy pro.

Place three balls in a row along the same line at equal distances.  I suggest 3, 6, and 9 feet to start.  Roll putts starting from the ball closest to the hole and moving outward.  This is a great drill to find rhythm before heading out on the course, or when you’re finishing up your practice for the day.
• Make several rehearsal strokes prior to each putt trying to feel the energy needed. An example is to place three balls on the same line at 20, 25 and 30 feet from the hole. Take your time and try to make each putt, then repeat the process from different directions and lengths for uphill, downhill and level putts.

3) Body Stability: During the putting motion, it’s imperative that the body remain very still. Any motion will cause your putter path to be inconsistent, which makes solid contact almost impossible. My favorite thought is to imagine a small coin under the ball at address. After my stroke, I don’t look up until I can identify the denomination—usually, this takes a count of one. Keeping your eyes focused on the impact area will greatly limit any tendency to move the body.
If you are just starting to play golf or an experienced player, I recommend you begin with the Grip Lesson. Holding the club properly allows you to take full advantage of the rest of the golf lessons on my website. Grip the putter any way you like, as long as it doesn’t hinder your left hand’s role in the stroke. But make sure to grip the club in your fingers. The shaft should run up the lifeline of your left hand for clubface control, but your fingers must contact the grip. You can drop the right forefinger down the shaft, but don’t steer with it. Forget about what your palms are doing. Fingers equal feel.

In a standard golf club set, you will find irons ranging from 1 to 9, but most sets have irons ranging from 3 to 9. A 3, 4 and 5 iron are typically quite difficult to hit, especially if you are a beginner. This is because the sole of these clubs are narrower than the higher irons, making it hard to get under the ball. The golf industry has solved this problem with the introduction of hybrids, which replace lower number irons. Irons vary in loft from the lower irons in the late teens to the higher irons which have loft as high as 50 degrees. Irons are designed to help you slice through thick lies because of their narrow sole and higher lofts, compared to woods. Normally, irons are played off the ground (fairway or rough), however; in the case of par 3s, players can use a tee to make it easier to get under the ball. The best irons for beginners have a large offset of the club face from the shaft. This means the club face is set back off the shaft and helps starter players get under the ball. You should also look for a wide sole and dispersed weighting system to increase the sweet spot.
If you want to shoot lower scores you have to be able to make the short ones, this putting drill will help.  There’s nothing more frustrating than having a 3-foot par putt and walking away with bogey.  It happens to everyone, but the more you practice and learn how to putt consistently, the more you’ll see the ball fall into the hole.
If you watch your playing partners or pros on TV, see what happens. First the back stroke, then the through the ball stroke and then their finish. Yes – what about the finish? Normally the club head recoils. Try having a practice putting stroke where the finish is held still. This will give you a different feel – more positive – I’m in control!!
I also like to have my students not think about hitting the ball. Even thinking about hitting the ball can interfere with focus on the line (which is where it all needs to be). It’s a stroke that the ball gets in the way of.
Sixty-five percent of golfers under-read the break on a typical putt, according to a Golf Magazine–sponsored study conducted at the Pinehurst Golf Academy. All of these flawed reads add up to lots of lost strokes, even with perfect putting technique. In our study, we assessed the green-reading skill of 72 golfers just like you. Initially, our research team simply sought to determine the ideal position from which to accurately detect slope (behind the hole, behind the ball, etc.), but results showed view position to be meaningless to good green-reading. Our study subjects misread everything, no matter where they stood or crouched. Some 25 years ago, Dave Pelz told everyday players to triple the amount of break they saw, and that’s as true now as it was then.

Perhaps you play where putts are good “inside the leather.” Or the length of putter. Or, based on Sergio Garcia’s 17-foot concession in the World Match Play Championship, maybe your “gimme” putts are considerably more liberal.

This putting tip is easy, but often overlooked. Once you have decided on a putting style and a line to the basket, commit! Make up your mind and don’t change while you’re in the process of putting. If you become unsure, step back and re-evaluate.
Set a manilla folder on the practice green 6-10 feet away from you on a level surface.  Roll putts and try to have them stop on the folder.  The fast surface of the folder is difficult to hold, making you have to focus on the speed of your putt.  This drill really comes in handy on the slippery short ones.
Hi, my name is Kris Ruiter and I am a personal golf coach.  Golf has been a part of my life for over 30 years, with 15 years of those dedicated to teaching. I have enjoyed teaching golf in both Canada and the U.S.A. I have worked with the aspiring playing professional to the new player who has never touched a club in their life.  I love the challenge and the fun of working with players of all levels. One of my favorite teaching days of all time was back to back lessons with a 12 year old girl then an 82 year old man.  Neither of them had ever touched a club before. It was such a fun day…as was the day when one of my competitive players made a career best 9 birdies in a competitive round.
Touch and Feel The problem with most players is that they focus too much on mechanics and contact and not enough on how much energy is needed to produce the correct distance. That’s putting touch. If yours is a little off, add the following three drills to your putting practice regimen.

Proficiency in teaching golf instruction requires not only technical and physical ability, but also knowledge of the rules and etiquette of the game. Golf instruction offered on many platforms in the United States including: the PGA of America, GolfTEC, and independent golfers who “may” or “may not” have credentials that are recognized by credible teachers certified sources such as the PGA of America. Although there are many great golf instructors in the United States, who are PGA Class A Professionals, not all great instructors carry this status nor find it a major determiner of golf instruction proficiency.
Sonic Golf System-1 – which essentially measures speed and rotation of the golf club and translates it into sound – can help you instill good rhythm in your golf swing, which is an important element, whether your tempo is fast, slow or in between.
Students ask all the time if they should take a practice swing or not. In response, I ask if they do in fact partake in this all important facet of the game. The answer usually comes back “sometimes.” That’s like admitting we would “sometimes” like to hit a good shot.

Belly putters are usually between 39 and 43 inches but can be slightly shorter or longer for very short or very tall golfers. If you’re 6 feet 2 or taller, use a belly putter with a shaft length between 45 and 47 inches. Use a 41- to 44-inch putter if you’re 5 feet 9 to 6 feet 1 tall. If you’re 5 feet 8 or shorter, the correct length is between 38 1/2 inches and 40 inches.
In contrast to other sports, in golf the ball doesn’t move prior to hitting it. This means you can and should carefully position yourself while you set up for a shot. We cover the many aspects of the golf setup in this section, from alignment, stance, distance to the ball, ball position, position of the hands, posture as well as the golf grip.
Many amateurs push or pull the putt off line. This is caused from an in-to-out or out-to-in swing path. The following drill will help develop a consistent path. Find a flat area on the green and place two clubs on the ground wide enough to place the putter head behind the ball. Swing the putter between the two clubs and hit the ball.  If the putter hits any of the clubs you are not swinging the putter down the target line. Make sure the putter head stays low to the ground and follows through.

For putting practice, I recommend the following routine, which places an emphasis on the most important aspects of becoming a good putter. This practice schedule is simple to follow and doesn’t require a lot of time (an hour to be exact). So the next time you face difficult, lightning-fast greens, such as those featured here on Kiawah Island, you’ll be prepared to hole more putts and post your best scores ever.
Hello, my name is Adam and I have been in love with the game of golf since I was 5 years old. I want share my love of this beautiful game through helping people to play better. That’s what we are all after isn’t it?!? I carry a USGA handicap of 2.5 and have been playing competitively since middle school. I have been a caddy at Merion, Aronimink and many other of the biggest clubs in the country for 13 year. Golf is my life. I am on the course every day, and I know it inside and out. First in Ali’s beginner golf swing three-step drill, she teaches you how to get used to pulling the club over your shoulder during the backswing and follow-through, bending your right arm at the start and your left at the finish. Next in the beginner golf swing drill, you’ll learn how to double up for success. Ali shows you how to use two clubs to further develop a proper swing plane, being sure to keep the clubs parallel and never let them touch.
3. Bring the putter back less.  This point is not only valid to end three putting, but in general to improve putting, and that’s to take the putter back a lesser distance, and speed up through the ball.  This permits for greater control of the putting stroke.  Increased control is gained through acceleration, versus trying to “feel” your path through impact.  This doesn’t just allow that you hit the golf ball cleaner, but additionally by bringing the putter back a smaller distance, you will have better chance of maintaining it on line throughout the putt.
A putter is a really personal thing in golf, so there really isn’t a recommended option. The main thing to look for in your putter is comfort and feel. I recommend you take some time to test many putters to see which leave the biggest impression on you.
You’ll simply pick up the game much more quickly. Golf is not easy to master, and if you want to get good at it, you’ll show improvement much more quickly if you are taught the correct way to play from the get-go.
So after a some soul searching, not too mention being a little poorer in the pocket, I started tinkering with online golf lessons.  With all the different choices that are available, finding the right program and instructor is a lot like auditioning a promising starlet.  A lot can be determined when she starts reading her lines.  One instructor I began working with barely had anything to say about my swing and immediately jumped to recommending that I practice the 9 to 3 drill to improve my sequencing.  His response felt canned, and it probably was since the program consistently pushed its vast library of instructional videos as the primary means for self-improvement.  After a little more research, I dived into using a different, and frankly, more popular online service that let me scrutinize different instructors by viewing actual sample lessons they gave.  I ended up choosing a Golf Digest Top-50 Female Instructor.  The cost of an individual lesson was $30, which could be further reduced by buying a pack of four lessons in advance.  Considering my instructor’s pedigree, $30 was a bargain, and there’s no way I would’ve been able to afford her lesson fee under different circumstances.

I like to see the putter relaxed in your hand – it is necessary to control the putter head, as it can weigh as much as half a kilo. It is important to lock the grip in your hands with the soft thumb pad in both hands, and the forefinger on your left – this will help to stop the putter from twisting off line, plus curling the right hand forefinger underneath the shaft (not down).

Practising with a short, lofted club encourages better posture and cleaner ball striking. Everybody gains confidence in seeing a nice high ball flight. Too little loft encourages new golfers too use a destructive scooping action to get the ball upwards.
It was a key moment in the tournament: Seung-Yul Noh, facing a 14-foot par-saving putt on the 17th hole Sunday to keep his lead at three shots. And compounding matters? A gusty, swirling wind that accentuated TPC Louisiana’s undulating greens.

The easiest way to stop your lower body moving during your putting stroke is to make yourself knock-kneed. This will automatically put your weight onto the inside of the sole of your shoes. Now, if you make a stroke you will see that the lower body, legs and knees stay still. Try putting a toilet roll between your knees and practice your stroke. Positive stroke isn’t it? And no lower movement!
Torrey Pines was also designed by William P Bell, and completed by his son William F Bell. Opened in 1957, and owned and maintained by the city, it has two 18-hole courses along with a driving range, practice putting greens, food and beverage carts and a restaurant. Regarded as one of the world’s top courses, the fog, rain and wind that sweep across its ocean-side location make this a challenging course for even the most seasoned players.

The head size of your golf clubs is important, particularly when choosing woods. Generally the larger the head size the larger the sweet spot. Therefore clubs which are oversized are generally very good for beginners as they are much more forgiving than small or mid head sized clubs. That being said, you don’t want the head size of our clubs to be too big, as this can make it difficult to control the ball. For example, senior golfers who generally don’t generate a lot of club head speed would benefit from oversized heads, whereas a beginner who still have many years under his belt would want to go for a mid to large head size. In practical terms we recommend drivers with a head sized of 450 to 460 cc. Irons should have a larger face and a deeper cavity at the back of the club. If you look at the head of irons used by top players you will notice four things: 1. the sole of the club is relatively narrow, as a beginner you want a wider sole. 2. The face of the club is relatively small with a tight sweet spot, as a starter golfer you want a larger face with a wider sweet spot to cater for 3. The cavity at the back of the club is usually very shallow, with some irons being total blades (see cast vs forged irons below), as a beginner you want a deeper cavity to disperse the weight to the perimeter of the club. And 4. Better players use irons with very little offset of the club head from the shaft, as a intermediate or beginner you want a good amount of offset to make it easier to launch the ball off the ground.

Tell me if this sounds familiar. You hit a great drive down the middle of the fairway and nice approach shot just off the edge of the green. You then proceed to mishit the chip and leave yourself a 10 footer for par that you miss. Meanwhile your buddy hits it in the trees off the tee, scrapes his second shot out, and then gets up and down from 40 yards for par beating you on the hole. Makes you want to pull your hair out right? The good news is that it doesn’t have to be like this. With a few simple adjustments you can start hitting more solid chip shots that end up closer to the hole and give you a better chance to save par. Here are 3 easy ways to improve your chip shots:
Could be a push putt or spin putt. Straddled legs with a hip thrust limits the number of moving joints and reduces side to side movement to greatly improve consistency. Squaring up to the basked can reduce power and distance and may take time to get used to.

The problem is that when most golfers practice, they want to go out and bang as many range balls with their driver as they can before a round. If they simply spent some of that time on the practice green, they would quickly see improved scores. The green seems to be the mortal enemy for many golfers, and it doesn’t have to be.  Here are three great putting drills to add to your arsenal that will help you become a better putter and consequently, a better golfer.

Confidence: (10 Minutes) The best putters in the world have the ability to read greens and judge distance correctly. They also have solid alignment routines and fundamentally sound putting mechanics. Their rhythm is flawless and consistent. But these things wouldn’t make them great putters unless they got used to making putts and getting the sensory feedback of seeing and hearing the ball dive into the hole. There’s only one way to get this confidence: Make more putts.
For Tiger it was 50 or 100 depending on the day.  The key for this drill is to make sure that your putter head is going straight back and straight through to the hole.  Seeing the short putts drop over-and-over will build your confidence and not let you give away any strokes on the course.

The debate over whether to read putts from behind the hole or behind the ball is a hotly contested one. For me, the correct answer’s a no-brainer: It depends. Different putts demand different perspectives in order for your eyes to accurately assess both distance and slope. Here’s a simple guide:

 – In your normal stance, try stroking through the ball, not at it. Bearing in mind that the ball only rolls on about a half inch wide band, watch this until it comes to a stop. Did it stay upright longer? I think so!
There are several reasons, so let’s take a quick look at the most important ones. First, we live extremely busy lives in the 21st century. It seems that 24 hours in a day is not enough to do all that we have to do as we try to pack in all of the chores and commitments. We are in a constant rush.
Every great golf swing rotates around the body in what is known as the golf swing plane. This movement gives the golf club the best chance of returning the golf club to the exact position required to make solid contact with the golf ball.

Comfort and alignment are crucial but the shoulders must be kept square and aligned to the direction of the line on which you want the ball to roll. Try left hand below right, (if you’re a right handed player – and like Jim Furyk or Padraig Harrington); it helps to keep the shoulders square at impact. You may have to adjust to a shorter-shafted putter to get the full value of the stroke.

On the practice green concentrate on good technique and consistency by holing a succession of four-footers. It will give you confidence in hearing the ball rattle into the cup rather than randomly firing long-range putts that never go in and ruin your focus.
If you’re like the majority who take this depth-perception test, you ended up pointing to a spot on the ground (or green) well short of the real target, which floods your motor systems with an improper distance to react to. You putt to an illusion instead of the hole. Don’t panic—this is a minor ocular flaw. Yet the effects can wreak havoc on your reads and your score. I’ve developed some quick, easy ways to offset the tricks your beautiful blues can, and will, play on you.
Set a manilla folder on the practice green 6-10 feet away from you on a level surface.  Roll putts and try to have them stop on the folder.  The fast surface of the folder is difficult to hold, making you have to focus on the speed of your putt.  This drill really comes in handy on the slippery short ones.

Rusty Cage is a contributing writer for GolfWRX, one of the leading publications online for news, information and resources for the connected golfer. His articles have covered a broad spectrum of topics – equipment and apparel reviews, interviews with industry leaders, analysis of the pro game, and everything in between. Rusty’s path into golf has been an unusual one. He took up the game in his late thirties, as suggested by his wife, who thought it might be a good way for her husband to grow closer to her father. The plan worked out a little too well. As his attraction to the game grew, so did his desire to take up writing again after what amounted to 15-year hiatus from sports journalism dating back to college. In spite of spending over a dozen years working in the technology sector as a backend programmer in New York City, Rusty saw an opportunity with GolfWRX and ran with it. A graduate from Boston University with a Bachelor’s in journalism, Rusty’s long term aspirations are to become one of the game’s leading writers, rising to the standard set by modern-day legends like George Peper, Mark Frost and Dan Jenkins. Cities everywhere are taking a hard look at the ‘golf’ line in their budgets. We went to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where city officials wondered: preserve the beloved course, or sell it as the site of a local corporation’s new headquarters?
If you shot a free throw with your right hand only, you’d realize you need your left hand as a guide. The same is true on the greens: The left hand is the direction hand, and it’s just as important as the right. Practice putting left-hand-only (right), or have someone hold a club in front of your hands on the target line. Bump the grip with the back of your hand, not your fingers, like Dave Jr. is doing.

Can you use your primary putting style, or is there a reason to switch to a backup? It’s usually best to stick to your primary style whenever possible to keep as much comfort and consistency in your putting game as possible, but there will come situations where your backup putting style is necessary.

If you type “golf for beginners” into YouTube you come up with about 131,000 results. If they averaged 10 minutes in length it would take you about 2 years doing nothing else day and night to watch them all.
In terms of golf shafts there are three main considerations: length, flex and material (i.e. graphite vs. steel). In terms of length, standard men’s clubs are generally suitable for males with a height between 5-foot-8-inches and 6-foot-2-inches. If you fall into this range then standard shaft lengths will be just fine. If you are slightly shorter or taller you can probably also get away with standard length clubs, but if you are significantly shorter or taller then you may want to consider custom fitting. Of course, as a beginner you can probably start with standard fitting clubs and then get custom fitted as you get better. The second consideration is staff flex. Flex can range from very “flexy” to stiff. Most clubs are fitted with standard or regular flex shafts, but if you have a very fast swing then you will want to opt for stiff flex. On the other hand if your swing speed is slow then a flexy shaft is better. In general seniors and ladies who can’t generate a fast swing speed should opt for a flexy shit, otherwise I recommend you go with a regular flex to start out. Finally, shafts come in two main material – stainless steel and graphite. Graphite shafts are lighter, which means one can generate more club head speed. Ideally you should go for woods with graphite shafts as with these clubs you are mainly interested in getting as much distance as possible. In terms of irons it is best to stick with steel shafts, although graphite shafts as a beginner isn’t a bad move.

A couple more items: I recommend that you hold the club in your palms so that your forearms and the shaft are on the same plane; this makes them work as one unit. Your shoulders should be parallel to the target line. The back of your neck should be close to horizontal, which will allow your shoulders to move more up and down, which makes the putter swing in a straighter line. It is important that you understand that the set-up will allow the putter to swing in a straight line; you should not try to manipulate the putter with your hands and arms.

Simply publicize your event, and Play-a-Round Golf will take care of everything else–scheduling foursomes, keeping scores, arranging golf days and summarizing the results on a virtual leader board.
Two packs, with each player laying out a 3×3 grid and facing 3 cards at the outset. Pairs do not count, but 3-of-a-kind in a row, column or diagonal scores zero, and a 2×2 block of 4 equal cards scores -25. Player turns over 1 card
Good green-readers “work off horizontal.” This term means that they look for a flat line in the background, then compare how much the green around them tilts in comparison. Even on severely undulating greens, horizontal lines are easy to spot. Look for:

5) Rhythm: (20 Minutes) A successful, consistent putting stroke must have rhythm, one that takes into account your inherent sense of tempo and the need to create equal backstroke and forwardstroke lengths. The best way to practice rhythm is to use a metronome. Set it between 54 and 64 beats-per-minute.

Students ask all the time if they should take a practice swing or not. In response, I ask if they do in fact partake in this all important facet of the game. The answer usually comes back “sometimes.” That’s like admitting we would “sometimes” like to hit a good shot.

Nowadays drivers come will all sorts of adjustability settings. This can be a little bewildering as a beginner but effectively the adjustability on a driver provides the option to move the weight from the front or back of the club, or left and right (towards the toe and heel). This makes it easier shape the ball and also give you the player flexibility in setting up the driver to suit your swing.

In any round of golf you will play approximately 40% of your shots with a putter. Thus the skill of putting has a huge influence over your end score. Yet most players will rarely give this skill the time and attention it deserves. Knowledge of and focusing on a few key putting fundamentals can make a huge difference to your scores on the course.

My golf methods get proven results and they work no matter what your age or handicap. For example, after starting golf lessons with me, Alex used the methods I taught him to win back to back Tournaments on the Golf Channel Amateur Tour. See photo below:
I give a two hour lesson for $50 to get results that day and you can decide if you want to move forward from there. I am old school without computers and trying to make you Tiger Woods with spine angels on the first lesson is crazy, so watch out for those guys. I want to make sure you know how to grip a club and keep you balance with a beautiful relaxed swing before we move on to anything more difficult. I suggest you try a few instructors to find one who can communicate with you you in a way you understand, but if your a beginner you do not need someone with all the techy computers to start.
Meadowbrook is another golf course situated close to downtown. The park was established in 1924 and it’s the oldest in the area. There are 9 hole courses and the narrow fairways can get really exciting to try. There is a rental service to provide you with your golf cart. For newbie’s, you don’t need to bring your equipment.
For beginners, in lessons 4, 5 and 6, you will also start working on short game and putting. Don’t let yourself think this isn’t as much fun as whacking balls on the driving range, this is BY FAR the most important aspect of golf. That’s why they say “Drive for show, putt for dough!”
