3) Body Stability: During the putting motion, it’s imperative that the body remain very still. Any motion will cause your path to be inconsistent, which makes solid contact almost impossible. My favorite thought is to imagine a small coin under the ball at address. After my stroke, I don’t look up until I can identify the denomination—usually, this takes a count of one. Keeping your eyes focused on the impact area will greatly limit any tendency to move the body.
1. Judge distance from the side of the putt, not from behind the ball. This gives you much better appreciation of the overall putt length. Remember how far the putt looks from this perspective, then go back to the ball to complete your read.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the best ways to learn golf. Obviously there is nothing to beat physical practice out on the course with an instructor who has been there and done that, but it is not possible to spend as much time as you might like doing that. Furthermore, a golf pro costs money, which of itself may be a restriction.

While this should be consistent across the holes during your round, you should be aware that putters handle differently depending on temperature. Putters are usually more overstable with less glide in cold weather so you may want to land your approach shots in different areas.

Recreational golfers are constantly seeking tips on how to improve, and the major golf publications such as Golf Magazine and Golf Digest devote substantial portions of their pages to instructional material of various kinds, often written by top-level instructors. Even television broadcasts of professional golf tournaments often contain short instructional segments, delivered by commentators who are also instructors such as Peter Kostis.
So my time here in Hanoi is coming to an end. Reflecting on all of the wonderful students I have had. Mr Chien I feel has had the most dramatic improvement not only in his swing mechanics but in 6 shared lessons he has improved his handicap by 13 strokes. Well done Mr Chien!! Find a flat spot on the practice green and stick a tee 2-3 away from the cup.  Line up that short straight putt and knock it in.  Then do it 99 more times.  During this drill make sure you’re focusing on form and alignment.  Not only is this a great drill to work on technique, but seeing the 100 putts drop in a row will give you the confidence to make more putts during your round.
Beginning at dealer’s left, players take turns drawing single cards from either the stock or discard piles. The drawn card may either be swapped for one of that player’s 6 cards, or discarded. If the card is swapped for one of the face down cards, the card swapped in remains face up. If the card drawn is discarded, the player can then either flip a card or choose to make no move. The round ends when all of a player’s cards are face-up. Remaining players then have one turn to draw a card to improve their hands and then scores are totaled and recorded on a running score sheet.

On the practice green concentrate on good technique and consistency by holing a succession of four-footers. It will give you confidence in hearing the ball rattle into the cup rather than randomly firing long-range putts that never go in and ruin your focus.

You read almost every putt, but if you’re like most players, your routine is guesswork disguised as green-reading. That won’t get you close to the hole, let alone “in.” You’re not the only one reading, and weeping, on the greens.
Some of the world’s best putters play with an open or closed stance – take Jack Nicklaus and Jim Furyk, for example. For me, all you need to align is the putter face, your forearms and shoulders (getting the putter face aligned is the first step). The forearms and shoulders determine the path of the putting stroke, not the lower body. If your shoulders and forearms are pointing to the right of the target line, you’ll push more putts to the right (it’s that simple). There’s no need to worry about the alignment of your feet and lower body (do whatever feels comfortable). When you’re over the ball looking at your spot, start to become conscious of the putter face, forearms and shoulders being square to it.
During our Oct holidy in Portugal we took the opportunity to take a 2 hours Golf lesson with Peter Lester. At this time we never have had a Golf Club im our hands before. We have been so excited by the method how Peter teached us, that we decide to come back and take a one week golf lesson. Immediately we booked a Golf lesson for one week from the 27.12.2014 – 03.01.2015. During this time at the pinhal golf course we took on five days (10am-1 PM)lessons. It was a very intensiv week. We have been 4 people in this group.(we took also 2 friends of us with us). It was a very motivating week and we learned all elements of Golf during this week. Peter was very patient and he guided us step by step to learn about the fastination of Golf. Especially his relax and correct way to explain the technologies and his passion was outstanding. (Before we went to Peter my wife called hereself „anti sport“ person. Now she is in Golf fever). Peter was looking to every individual and therefore after this week we did a big step forward. Beside technics, Peter also explained about the etiquette and the main important rules. At the end oft he week we did some exercises and we passed successful our space mature.

Learning to play golf does two main things: it gets us out into the fresh air when we have been stuck in an office all week, and it requires a lot of concentration. This second point is probably the main one. When you have to concentrate so hard on the shot that you are about to take at that moment, all of your worries disappear. They have to, because your mind is suddenly 100% on the shot, so everything else vanishes. There is no room left for fears, worries, and frustrations, so golf gives you mental relaxation and peace of mind.
Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. Our beginner section includes tips on proper manners and more, such as how to dress on the course, how to keep score, and even how to save money playing this sometimes expensive game.
Touch and Feel The problem with most players is that they focus too much on mechanics and contact and not enough on how much energy is needed to produce the correct distance. That’s putting touch. If yours is a little off, add the following three drills to your putting practice regimen.
Some top instructors who work with professional golfers have become quite well known in their own right over the years, including Harvey Penick, Jack Grout, Dick Harmon, David Leadbetter, Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, Chip Thomson, Sean Foley, Quentin Patterson and Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer. Some of the teachers maintain teaching facilities or schools where they or their disciples use their methods or systems. A few instructors focus solely on a particular aspect of the sport, such as Dave Pelz with the short game. Some famous golfers have been tightly bound with their instructor, such as Jack Nicklaus with Jack Grout, while in other cases golfers have made high-profile switches from one instructor to another, such as Tiger Woods moving from Butch Harmon to various other instructors.
This section covers the fundamentals of the golf game. Golf tips on the setup and its various elements, the swing itself and its various sequences, as well as golf drills for every part of the swing are all provided.
As I have already covered in the section on drivers above, the best drivers have a large head size. Ranging from 440-460cc. I recommend you look for a driver with a head size greater than 440 cc. This will maximize the sweet spot and provide loads of forgiveness on mishits.

I’m a big proponent of practising from inside 10 feet because then you’re going to make a lot of putts and when you see the ball going in constantly, it breeds confidence like nothing else. You need to practise that and give yourself good momentum going into a round.
2. “Walk” off the distance with your stroke. From the side of the putt, point your putter at the ball, then pass it over an imaginary line running from the ball to the cup at the same speed you want the putt to roll (above). Moving your putterhead from the ball to the hole at the proper speed when you’re calculating distance helps your brain move your arms and putter with the correct amount of energy when you putt the ball for real. Yes, you can do this by simply scanning your eyes over the line, but studies prove that using your eyes and hands in tandem enhances brain performance much more than using only your eyes.

For advanced players, the last two lessons in a six golf lesson package are often taken out onto the course for a playing lesson where your coach will help you simulate real situations that you would find throughout a round.
There’s no question that missing putts is the easiest way to put a bloated number on the scorecard. A great drive and a fantastic approach shot can be nullified by a couple of missed putts, and the next thing you know, you are putting a bogey or worse instead of a birdie or par. Sure, it’s frustrating, but like anything, to get better you have to practice.
We can’t promise we’ll make your putting the object of such flowery praise, or that we’ll make you into the next Ben Crenshaw or Jack Nicklaus. But here are 10 tips from various golf experts on how to improve your skills.
I can’t believe how many treasures are in these videos! Probably have watched every one at least ten times but always learn something new. This video is huge because it really explains the “feeling” of the club almost starting the pivot behind the right leg and the club head getting out where is should be super early.
Golf Lessons with Derek Hooper – I have always felt that putting is the easiest part of the game. It requires little strength, endurance, flexibility or speed and thus with some practice every player can become a proficient putter. Despite this many players still find it difficult to make as many putts as they would like and end up wasting too many strokes on the greens.

By age 12, she was a junior-golf phenomenon, an Alameda County kid whose flair for golf promised a pink (as in healthy) future. Pink, as it turns out, became Paula Creamer’s on-course color—she was draped in it for her 2010 U.S. Open Win—but her fashion sense was shaped at her childhood home.

As you rest the putter on the ground, position your hands so that the grip of the putter points towards your left hip, just left of your belt buckle (for the right-handed golfer). Your hands should be slightly ahead of the golf ball.
“One putter I remember whose putting was a delight to the eye. He seemed positively to infuse sight and intelligence into his ball. The way that simple sphere would start from his club, mount an incline, negotiate a curve, look for the hole, and endowed with some curious spin, drop unhesitatingly in without dreaming for a moment of rimming it or running over it or stopping short of it, was a sight to make one wise” [source: Haultain].

In the previous tips, (1-11) we have looked at all the basics of putting, stance, grip, eye-line, body movement etc, and now I would like to look at creating the perfect stroke. But before that, a question: How hard do you hit the ball? Answer: Never! – You don’t!
One common problem with disc golf putting advice is that it is often vague and lacks focus. Many articles providing disc golf putting tips just list out a load to advice, half of which isn’t even helpful. That’s not the way to approach putting technique. To help, we’ve structured our disc golf putting advice from start to finish.  We’ll also keep adding more putting tips to this article over time so this page is never outdated.
The Internet is awash in golf instruction, much more than any sane person can digest. This has got to be tough on the golf magazines. They are the biggest traditional purveyors of golf tips, after teaching pros and that well-meaning guy at your club you try never to be paired with. But these days there are so many tips, lessons and swing analyses available online—most of them free, in high-def and searchable by topic—that waiting for a handful printed on paper to arrive in your mailbox each month seems quaint. Likewise buying an…
As an optometrist and sports-vision specialist, I know that’s not the case. Many players I work with are “depth-deficient,” perceiving the location of the hole as closer than it is. In some cases, their perceptual error is 25 percent—that means that a 25-footer looks like it only needs to travel 20 feet. Those five feet of misjudgment cost you.
Beginning at dealer’s left, players take turns drawing single cards from either the stock or discard piles. The drawn card may either be swapped for one of that player’s 6 cards, or discarded. Having trouble controlling the distance your putts travel? The most important element of putting is being able to control distance. Why? Because “Distance Controls Direction.” A putt that travels beyond the hole will curve less, while a putt that is barely making it to the hole will curve much more. That’s why you should seek to Read more…
Perhaps you play where putts are good “inside the leather.” Or the length of putter. Or, based on Sergio Garcia’s 17-foot concession in the World Match Play Championship, maybe your “gimme” putts are considerably more liberal.

This 100 straight putts drill will teach you how to make short putts consistently and take any lingering stress out of those 2 foot “tap-ins”.  Whether you want to admit it or not, when the pressure is on, those 2 footers can start to look a little longer than they do on the practice green.
The rhythm of your putting stroke should always stay the same. You’d have the same rhythm for short 3 feet putts as you would for long 30 feet putts – the length of your putting stroke will determine the distance you hit each putt.
Hold up the putter up between finger and thumb and tap the face with the edge of a coin to find the sweet spot – the clubhead will pendulum rather than twist. Mark that spot on the top of the clubhead so you can see it at address. Struck opposite that point the ball will generate overspin and roll.
If you really want to perfect your through stroke, try putting in a normal position, but with your eyes closed. Think you will miss the ball? I very much doubt it, but what you will find is that if you watch the ball roll after the stroke has finished, you will see the ball rolls perfectly straight – why? You stroked through it and not at it, because your eyes were closed you never knew when to hit and only created a putting stroke.
Throwing the disc overhand while supporting with thumb underneath the middle of the flight plate and fingers along the rim, almost like throwing a football or darts. Increases power and allows line shaping, also useful for putting over obstacles. Usually doesn’t feel natural at first and can be inconsistent because of the extra arm movement.
Tossing the putter with as little spin as possible by flicking with supporting fingers and snapping at the hips. Less spin helps to keep the putter flight and on a straight line as well as reduce chain spit-outs and less wrist movement helps with consistency. Doesn’t feel as natural and is more difficult to putt from long distances.
Get a metal meter stick and place it six feet away from the hole (or any target) on the line where the ball should start off the putter face.  Set the ball on the end and hit your putt.  If the ball stays on the meter stick the whole way, it means your putter face was square at impact and you put a good roll on the ball.  This is also a great putting drill that you can do at home.
4. Put into practice the square to square putting method.  With this easy tactic to use the putter, the blade is going to travel directly back, hitting the ball squarely at impact, and finishing at the hole.  As with each technique in the game, the more basic they are, the more consistent you may become.

While playing golf you will also encounter trouble shots on a regular basis. These shots have lie conditions that differ from the normal good lie on a flat surface. As such, they require adjustments to your swing in order to produce the results you are looking for. These video golf tips explore how to hit trouble shots.

Set a manilla folder on the practice green 6-10 feet away from you on a level surface.  Roll putts and try to have them stop on the folder.  The fast surface of the folder is difficult to hold, making you have to focus on the speed of your putt.  This drill really comes in handy on the slippery short ones.
Few things in golf are more frustrating that discovering you ball is plugged in a bunker. In this video, Justin Rose explains a different approach to the traditional method of playing a plugged bunker shot.
There is a wide range of prices for golf training products. While it can be tempting to go for the least expensive option, it’s important to look at the overall value. Some products are very comprehensive while others, although helpful, may leave you buying more products to get the golf game you want.
Once you have positioned yourself properly in front of the ball during the setup the next part involves actually hitting the ball. While the golf swing is certainly complex in itself, it can be broken down into swing sequences that you should strive to master. They are: takeaway, backswing, top of the swing, downswing, impact, extension & rotation, and the follow through.
I love helping players generate these moments. In fact I love helping players generate as many of these moments as they can so they can reach their own personal golf goals.  It is these moments that help fuel my passion for teaching golf.  It has always been my objective as a teacher to increase the level of enjoyment and passion players have for this great game.   The free golf lessons you will find here on my website are designed to accomplish that objective. I have taken my teachings and made them accessible for as many players as possible worldwide.
For putting practice, I recommend the following routine, which places an emphasis on the most important aspects of becoming a good putter. This practice schedule is simple to follow and doesn’t require a lot of time (an hour to be exact). So the next time you face difficult, lightning-fast greens, such as those featured here on Kiawah Island, you’ll be prepared to hole more putts and post your best scores ever.
For example, on a left-to-righter, the natural tendency is to lean with the slope as you settle into your address position, toward your toes, until your eyes are level with the tilt of the green. You do it without even thinking. But that makes your eyes shift outside the ball, causing you to aim left of your chosen line. The opposite happens on right-to-left putts; you lean toward your heels, shifting your eyes inside the ball, and you aim too far to the right. Hey, it’s just our natural design, but it’s a huge putting problem, compounded by the fact that your shoes feature heel wedges that slope as much as two degrees—an added tilt that further distorts your feel for break at address.
Ask any good putter what separates him or her from the crowd, and they’ll most likely say, “My ability to bury the short ones, inside three feet, almost all the time.” Sure, crazy lipouts or spike marks happen, but if you really want to shave strokes off your card and be a master of the Read more…
The third fundamental is to strike the ball with a slight upstroke. This gives the ball a forward roll. The way to achieve this is to position yourself so that the ball is two inches forward of your sternum. Phillip Kenyon demonstrates how to do this.
His playing career highlights are finishing runner up in a MasterCard Challenge Tour event, Leicestershire PGA Matchplay Champion 1996, Leicestershire PGA Assistants Strokeplay Champion 2003, winner of The Midland PGA Assistants Order of Merit 1994 and Leicestershire PGA County Open Champion 2002 & 2003 – in 2003 shooting a course record of 61 in the second round; a record which still stands to this day.
I have already talked about the importance of engaging the bigger muscles to control the swing. If you can do this then all you need to do to hit the ball further is make a slightly bigger swing, master it and you’ll be far better at lag putting.
Our Philosophy is to educate our students, and give them the proper tools to keep their golf game on a steady progression upwards. Many amateur players have very active hands and wrist when putting. After choosing a putting style and selecting a few putters to try, the next putting tip is simple: PRACTICE!! No need for explanation here, if you want to be a great disc golfer putter then you have to practice.
Yes. According to the draft (see “8” below) there will only be 24 Rules in the 2019 Rules of Golf (there are 34 now). Please be aware, though, that the 2019 Rules will also be quite complicated and have a lot of text!
No, golf doesn’t play favorites. Everyone starts on a level playing field, where height, weight, foot speed, leaping ability and other traditional measures of athleticism don’t determine who excels and who rides the bench.
San Diego golf is not complete without a mention of La Costa Golf Resort & Spa, which has seen the likes of Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Lanny Wadkins and Tiger Woods on its greens over the years. The PGA Tour has visited here for more than 30 years, and it was home for many years to the Accenture Match Play Championships.
The easiest way to stop your lower body moving during your putting stroke is to make yourself knock-kneed. This will automatically put your weight onto the inside of the sole of your shoes. Now, if you make a stroke you will see that the lower body, legs and knees stay still. Try putting a toilet roll between your knees and practice your stroke. Positive stroke isn’t it? And no lower movement!

Many school districts also offer continuing or adult education programs, and taking golf lessons through this method can reduce your costs considerably.
Fees average $50 to $60 for a 30- to 45-minute private lesson. Instructors sometimes offer hour-long sessions for $75 to $90, which is a better overall value. There is usually no cost break for children’s lessons.

This question was first raised in our recent “Yo, GolfWRX?” episode, leading to a number of responses on Facebook — some better than others. So, for this week’s Two Guys Talkin’ Golf episode, equipment expert Brian Knudson and Editor Andrew Tursky discuss their top-3 sneaker picks to turn into golf shoes. Also, they discuss Tiger Woods’ reported club head speed of 128.4 mph, and whether that’s even possible.

Harold says that there are four fundamentals to good putting. To begin with the blade has to be square to the target at both the address and strike positions. The second fundamental is the importance of keeping the blade of the putter square through the path of the hitting area.

If you stare at the ball too long at address, it’s easy to get brain-locked and hit a bad putt. To avoid this, I don’t even look at the ball. Try looking at a spot just in front of the ball on your target line and rolling the ball over that spot. Put a tee in the ground in front of the ball when you practice (right). This gets you thinking about the target line instead of the stroke–the opposite of what most golfers do.

Then Piers demonstrates that you can practise with small swings so that you get used to turning your body in the correct arc in order for the clubface to strike the ball at the correct angle, and play some shots like this before increasing your swing in order to drive the ball down the fairway. To begin with you only need to hit the ball 20 yards.

While playing golf you will also encounter trouble shots on a regular basis. These shots have lie conditions that differ from the normal good lie on a flat surface. As such, they require adjustments to your swing in order to produce the results you are looking for. These video golf tips explore how to hit trouble shots.
By learning the fundamentals of How To Play Golf, of course. It may not sound exciting or sexy, but don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. The golf swing becomes much simpler when it’s built on a solid base of these four elements:

At Topgolf U, we’re redefining the way people learn to play golf. Our certified pros help students develop and practice the fundamentals of the golf swing in a high-energy environment that’s constantly being updated and upgraded so no two lessons are ever the same. These aren’t your typical golf lessons, and that’s what makes them so great!
In a good golf swing the body only rotates at approximately 2.5 mph. If the body doesn’t turn very fast and it’s telling the arms how fast to come down the overall swing would appear slow and effortless.
If you shot a free throw with your right hand only, you’d realize you need your left hand as a guide. The same is true on the greens: The left hand is the direction hand, and it’s just as important as the right. Practice putting left-hand-only (right), or have someone hold a club in front of your hands on the target line. Bump the grip with the back of your hand, not your fingers, like Dave Jr. is doing.
Ask Around: Every golf instructor’s best advertising is his or her past students. To get an idea of the best teachers in your area, ask as many golfers as you know. It’s likely that a handful of names will come up frequently, and that list can be your starting point. You may find someone who has taken lessons and can give a glowing recommendation on a particular instructor – or a warning.
Taking lessons simply makes learning the game much easier, and improvement in your play takes place much quicker. Which will increase your enjoyment. Not to mention the safety of those around you on the golf course!
This is a drill that you can practice at home. Just make sure you are on a flat surface where the ball will roll straight. Like the previous drill, this exercise is designed to help you make those must-have short putts while promoting accuracy. It’s also very easy to set up. All you need is a coin a ball marker, a golf ball, and your favorite flat stick. Just set the coin about a foot in front of the ball and practice putting over it. The goal here is to go right over the top of the coin. Since the coin is a small target, it requires a high degree of accuracy, even from short range.

Andy begins by pointing out that the object is to hit the ball in a reasonably straight line, but that a lot of beginners think that in that case the swing should be directly behind the ball and follow through in a straight line. However, that is not the case. The club does not travel in a straight line, but in an arc. The club is raised behind the golfer’s body so it is not directly behind the ball. As the swing commences it travels down the first part of the arc and – it is to be hoped – connects with the ball at exactly the point where it will send it in the direction we want, and then continues in its arc finishing up above the golfer’s left shoulder (or right, in the case of a left-handed player).

The reason everyone can do this properly is because all of these lessons happen before we start moving the club and our body for the swing. Not everyone will create speed in their swing like Tiger, Rory McIlroy or Jordan Speith (sorry!) but everyone can have just as good fundamentals. By learning these little secrets, you will give yourself the best opportunity to improve your distance, accuracy and scores.

Fairway woods can range from a 3 wood to a 7, or even 9 wood. The loft for a 3W is generally between 12 and 17 degrees. Some sets also include 5-wood with a loft between 18 and 23 degrees. Fairway woods can be hit off the tee and as the name suggests, on the fairway too. Most of the fairway woods have large heads that are quite similar to the driver, but they are shallower and boast a lower sweet spot, pointing towards the bottom of the club. Graphite shafts are also desirable in your fairway woods.
As I have already covered in the section on drivers above, the best drivers have a large head size. Ranging from 440-460cc. I recommend you look for a driver with a head size greater than 440 cc. This will maximize the sweet spot and provide loads of forgiveness on mishits.

All I read on a putt are the last few feet and how it’s going to go into the hole. I then just let my brain sort of figure out the rest. I don’t read it too closely. I don’t want to overdo the read, or try too hard if that makes sense. You can get the old saying ‘paralysis by analysis’.
Does it make a difference? Grab a book or magazine and try reading it while tilting it away from your eyes. It’s impossible. The words are blurry, and images on the page narrow toward a vanishing point, like railroad tracks on a long straightaway (above, right photo).

The debate over whether to read putts from behind the hole or behind the ball is a hotly contested one. For me, the correct answer’s a no-brainer: It depends. Different putts demand different perspectives in order for your eyes to accurately assess both distance and slope. Here’s a simple guide:
The majority of golf strokes occur near or on the putting green, but many golfers have no concept of how to hit a basic short shot in golf, whether it’s a putt or a chip. PGA Professional Chris Czaja offers a wrist tip that will improve your short game.
As a beginner, you may be unfamiliar with all the rules of golf. Attending beginner’s lessons will give you the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the various aspects of the game. You will learn how to keep score, the different types of courses, and the length of the average game, among other aspects.
To hit a chip shot solid you need to hit the golf ball, then the ground. In order to achieve this you must strike the ball at or before the bottom of the swing. Getting your weight and golf club leaning slightly forward at the setup are excellent ways to improve contact. At the setup feel 60% of your weight on the forward foot. It will feel as though back shoulder is higher than your front shoulder. This sets your swing into a steeper position allowing for a solid hit. Now the key is to keep the weight there during the swing. Next get the shaft leaning slightly toward the target. A good reference point is to have the grip of the club even with the middle of your forward thigh. This along with leaning forward add just enough steepness to allow for a solid hit on the golf ball.

You get the same perspective disruption when you read putts from the high side; like a tilted book, the green ends up running away from you, making the distance between the ball and the hole look longer than it is.
If you’re like the majority who take this depth-perception test, you ended up pointing to a spot on the ground (or green) well short of the real target, which floods your motor systems with an improper distance to react to. You putt to an illusion instead of the hole. Don’t panic—this is a minor ocular flaw. Yet the effects can wreak havoc on your reads and your score. I’ve developed some quick, easy ways to offset the tricks your beautiful blues can, and will, play on you.
By the way, since this is my first GolfWRX Article allow me to introduce myself. My name is Brian Oswald, and I’m the founder of golfrules.com (The Oswald Academy), which has only one purpose: To teach in the Rules of Golf in a (hopefully!) fun and entertaining way. I publish Rules books and Rules videos, answer questions and hold seminars arounds the world. I also have a Rules newsletter, among other things.
A couple more items: I recommend that you hold the club in your palms so that your forearms and the shaft are on the same plane; this makes them work as one unit. Your shoulders should be parallel to the target line. The back of your neck should be close to horizontal, which will allow your shoulders to move more up and down, which makes the putter swing in a straighter line. It is important that you understand that the set-up will allow the putter to swing in a straight line; you should not try to manipulate the putter with your hands and arms.
Putting Mechanics (25 Minutes) The goal of a good putting stroke is to consistently strike the ball solidly in the direction the putter is aligned with the proper pace. This is the essence of putting and, accordingly, this will be the biggest part of your putting hour. Concentrate on five main areas.
PGA Professional Craig Renshaw, Director of Instruction at Paradise Valley Golf Club, explains why people have difficulty getting their long putts close to the hole and offers ways to remedy this problem.
That’s where this online beginner’s guide comes in. To those who know nothing about golf, our goal is to shepherd you through this uncertainty. What kind of clubs do you need? How do you practice? When do you know that you’re ready for the golf course? The way we see it, the only dumb questions about getting started in golf are the ones you’re afraid to ask, or worse, the ones for which you can’t find an answer. The whole point of this guide is to make sure that last part is no longer a problem. — Sam Weinman
Andrew Rice has become one of the most popular faces in the online golf instruction world for good reason. He’s one of the best communicators I’ve ever seen. You’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who conducts a better video presentation than Andrew, and it’s why his following has become so large.
Four or more players use two standard 52-card decks plus 2 or 4 Jokers . Each player is dealt 6 cards face down from the deck, the remainder is placed face down and the top card is turned up to start the discard pile beside it. Players arrange their 6 cards in rows in front of them and turn 2 of these cards face up. This arrangement is maintained throughout the game and players always have 6 cards in front of them.
If you are a new player to golf or are an experienced player that would like to hit the reset button then I would approach your learning the same way I approach the development of almost every player. Start with the shortest stroke first.  This means to start with the putting stroke and move your way back to through the clubs and shots all the way to the driver.
Cost Individual FixYourGame.com video lessons are $25 each a series of five golf lessons is $75. The average price of a traditional golf lesson is $80. Where else can you get a complete golf lesson for less than the price of a dozen balls?
 – In your normal stance, try stroking through the ball, not at it. Bearing in mind that the ball only rolls on about a half inch wide band, watch this until it comes to a stop. Did it stay upright longer? I think so!
I don’t think most golfers appreciate just how many shots they are throwing away with their putter. If you want to better your scores on the golf course and lower your handicap as quickly as possible – improve your putting.
Another of 4 pillars of good putting is fluidity (making a tension-free stroke), which spot putting helps us with. The more focused you are on the spot and the line (visualizing the putt), the less you’re focused on your putting stroke. You become more “connected” with the putt. Putting needs to be as fluid as possible – any focus on what your body is doing will affect that fluidity (same as the full swing).
I started out as a recreational golfer in West Trenton NJ , Played my High School golf at Ewing HS and was All-County. Then played for the TSC (Trenton State) Lions golf team. While at college won several events and the passion for golf continued. As a PGA Professional I instruct as would a Coach. I have seen my students rise from shooting 100 all the way into the 80’s. The better players I work with enhance their game. The bottom line, DO NOT BE AFRAID OR DISCOURAGED where you are now. With the right coaching you will enjoy the game more! You’ll achieve a much more consistent “roll” on the ball, which is the most important factor in good putting. Not “trying” to make putts, but instead hitting a solid putt to an intermediary target will make you a much better putter.

We’re going to reiterate that planning is important, even while you’re on the course. The best disc golfers don’t just throw and hope they get a good lie. They observe the environment and layout of the course and identify whey they want to putt from. Think of the following factors when deciding the best putting position.
I also like to have my students not think about hitting the ball. Even thinking about hitting the ball can interfere with focus on the line (which is where it all needs to be). It’s a stroke that the ball gets in the way of.

• Make several rehearsal strokes prior to each putt trying to feel the energy needed. An example is to place three balls on the same line at 20, 25 and 30 feet from the hole. Take your time and try to make each putt, then repeat the process from different directions and lengths for uphill, downhill and level putts.

Belly putters are usually between 39 and 43 inches but can be slightly shorter or longer for very short or very tall golfers. If you’re 6 feet 2 or taller, use a belly putter with a shaft length between 45 and 47 inches. Use a 41- to 44-inch putter if you’re 5 feet 9 to 6 feet 1 tall. If you’re 5 feet 8 or shorter, the correct length is between 38 1/2 inches and 40 inches.

So after a some soul searching, not too mention being a little poorer in the pocket, I started tinkering with online golf lessons.  With all the different choices that are available, finding the right program and instructor is a lot like auditioning a promising starlet.  A lot can be determined when she starts reading her lines.  One instructor I began working with barely had anything to say about my swing and immediately jumped to recommending that I practice the 9 to 3 drill to improve my sequencing.  His response felt canned, and it probably was since the program consistently pushed its vast library of instructional videos as the primary means for self-improvement.  After a little more research, I dived into using a different, and frankly, more popular online service that let me scrutinize different instructors by viewing actual sample lessons they gave.  I ended up choosing a Golf Digest Top-50 Female Instructor.  The cost of an individual lesson was $30, which could be further reduced by buying a pack of four lessons in advance.  Considering my instructor’s pedigree, $30 was a bargain, and there’s no way I would’ve been able to afford her lesson fee under different circumstances.
Our Philosophy is to educate our students, and give them the proper tools to keep their golf game on a steady progression upwards. We want to make the student aware of not only proper swing fundamentals, but also the mental side, the course management side, and the short game side. Within these categories mikesogacademy will educate the student on definitions, proper fundamentals, proper technique, and proper on-course pr
After three weeks I finally took a trip to the range.  Getting into my new posture required very little conscious effort and I made some half decent swings.  I took a few new videos of myself and uploaded them for review.  My instructor acknowledged the hard work I put in, noted that my takeaway was still going back a fraction inside and began to diagram the next phase of my swing reconstruction – improving my backswing.  Although I am in reasonably good athletic shape, I tend to cheat a little bit taking the club up to the top.  The current goal is to get my back to target so that I can finally feel what it means to be loaded onto my right side (as a right-handed golfer).  I’ll need to ingrain this new movement before my instructor and I can tackle sequencing in my downswing.

Note that in both cases you’re reading the green from the low side of the putt. Favoring the low side positions your sight lines perpendicular (or closer to perpendicular) to the slope when you crouch, so you look into the hill, not down it.
This is a drill that you can practice at home. Just make sure you are on a flat surface where the ball will roll straight. Like the previous drill, this exercise is designed to help you make those must-have short putts while promoting accuracy. It’s also very easy to set up. All you need is a coin or a ball marker, a golf ball, and your favorite flat stick. Just set the coin about a foot in front of the ball and practice putting over it. The goal here is to go right over the top of the coin. Since the coin is a small target, it requires a high degree of accuracy, even from short range.
Fairway woods are really important clubs when you are just starting out in golf as they allow you to get as much distance as possible when hitting off the fairway. The two main fairway woods are a #3 and #5 wood. I recommend you get both, but if you are on a budget then a #3 wood will suffice (just make sure to get two hybrids then – see below).
Your breakthrough comes from experiencing confidence in putting, chipping, and hitting it straight out on the range and golf course.  We achieve this quickly and swiftly in five one hour group or individual lessons.  I’ve taught many a friends throughout my 25 years of playing golf.  I love to play and teach newcomers with a fun and proactive approach to learning the basics.  For beginners and high handicappers only.
Another thing that an intermediary target does is make you less likely to come out of your posture prematurely and look at the ball’s final target (the hole), which causes miss-hit putts. Staying over the ball until the ball has been hit over your spot will improve your ball striking leading to more consistent putts.

The cost of an individual lesson was $30, which be further reduced by buying a pack of four lessons in advance.  Considering my instructor’s pedigree, $30 was a bargain, and there’s no way I would’ve been able to afford her lesson fee under different circumstances.

4) Arm Swing:_Ê In a good putting stroke, the arms should move freely from the shoulders and swing so that there’s no wrist activity. A good tool to check your arm swing is to place a golf tee in the end of your grip. With a good motion, the golf tee, your arms and the putterhead will move together to the target. Trouble occurs if the putterhead moves forward as the golf tee moves away from the target.
